I would have guessed the molding of the plastic shock bodies/pistons were a bit off and at full compression of the shocks, the pistons got stuck at the top of the shock body. That was my experience, years ago, on a set of composite shocks for my Optima mini truggy transformation... very annoying.Just the part sticking out catching dirt. I figured if it didnt work it wouldn't be that hard to get new 1s. Has been no issue
I had an RC platform that came with a revision part to add more squish to shock x-rings. The original shocks came with no spacer between x-rings. Just that little piece of plastic (circled below) added enough squish to the x-rings.
Maybe instead of slicing an o-ring that is squished outside of a shock, a person sanding/shaving 0.5mm, or less, material off the spacer between the o-rings would not squish the o-rings as much when the lower shock cap is tightened down all the way.
Anyways, I'm glad you got things up and running.
May you keep the dirt flying.
