Kyosho sandmaster 2.0

She has arrived. Spent the last few nights making some changes.

I knew based on a number of reviews, what i was getting myself into. A number of people in those reviews mentioned the Sandmaster being an entry level vechile that looked cheap. I was sitting on the fence in relation to what Rc car i wanted to add to my collection. The idea was to use spears laying around unused from previous models.

First impressions out of the box:

  • Bigger size wise then i expected.
  • Heavier then i expected in the center of the chassis (i actually thought a battery was inside the battery compartment when i first lifted her out of the box).

First mods (front of buggy):

* Removed the stock servo and replaced with a 15kg metal digital servo along with adding an aluminum servo horn.
* Removed the plastic steering links and replaced with metal steering links.
* Removed stock shocks and replaced with some unused HSP aluminum shocks (30wt oil).
* Removed stock wheels and replaced with some disc wheels.

Rear mods:

I haven't changed the spur gear as after the first run, i haven't experienced the noise issues others have had in relation to the spur gear. I did remove the spur gear and she looked ok in relation to the edges or any concerns in relation to the teeth. I installed a Yeah Racing 48p, 23T pinion.

I opened the gear box and applied some more grease.

* Removed the rear stock shocks and replaced with some HSP aluminum shocks (40wt oil) and placed some spring tension on the shock to remove the rear end lag and from bottoming out at the rear.

Power:

Have gone brushless straight off the bat. Using a Hobbywing QUICRUN WP-10BL60 and a 3300kv motor.

Transmitter/Receiver:

Replaced stock transmitter and recevier with a Spektrum SLT3 3CH transmitter and SR315 recevier.

Rear wheels:

Replaced stock wheels.

Appearance:

Not a fan personally of the stock decal appearance of any of my rc cars. . I like a plan clean appearance. Removed all the stock decals and added a few decals running up the front edge of the side panels. Also added some side netting to look like a driver safety net.

I plan to get some black Carbon Fiber decal wrap and wrap all of the panels. I did contemplate painting the panels but wasn't going to spend money on getting paint and primer for a few body panels.

Looks like yer up to great things and we'll on the way to making this a buggy anyone would be excited to drive. Congrats!!

After fighting with various hexes I have some that will eventually work but not today. I did have a set of wheels hanging around that I got mounted up which avoid the faux beadlockers it came with. Also found a new body kit on ebay cheap enough I can have my servo covered again....color is odd with the yellow cage but 1 thing at a time. The way it sits right now makes me wanna find a spot for dirt/mud drags. Actually drives pretty good after I bumped the steering up to accommodate the tires push through the corners.

It's been a minute since I have added to this thread...and it's time. The kyosho sandmaster 2.0 has finally achieved a level of undeniable fun with rc. I spent a bunch of time on the snow covered paved oval at the hobby shop today kicking up a white roost, and drifting a dirt buggy around. My newly rewound motor is performing great, as is the rest of the car. Took a little while to get here but it's worth it.

I almost bought another kyosho today....I checked the website before I went there... none in stock, my $$ is safe. Then I walked in, and there it was in the box...on the floor...and in my hand. Then I realized it was an open box, and someone had walked off with the tires and wheels. They offered me discount, and on almost any other model I would have taken it. This 1 is discontinued. Kyosho is out of stock on the wheels. Life is hard.

If Kyosho is discontinued, it could be a change of part number.
It might not be as bad as all that.

Sounds to me like a perfect candidate for substantial holiday/missing stuff discounting!!!

Most of my Kyosho were discontinued 30 years ago. 🤷‍♀️🤣

Mad Wagons and Mad Vans can be purchased at great prices right now if you need a new project. 😉👍

This is on the top of my list. The problem with the missing wheels is it comes with 6, they stole the main 4. I would have to find the original 4 that match or buy 6 and make sure they are the right size to fit in the cage out back so I can use the weight bias as needed.

A real trophy truck with a solid axle out back and independent suspension up front with long travel and sway bars all around.

Chrome or black won't matter much. A mix or match won't be a big deal anyways. Both are out of stock, not discontinued. Kyosho will get more I'll bet.

I'd see just how deep that discount goes. Considering you'll buy it and look at it before you run it, til you get wheels, thats worth $150 discount all day long! 😉🤣

Its a cool truck for sure!!! 😍

I was offered 60 off....not today

Hello, this is my first post here. Santa brought my 9 year old son this car (but we all know who it was really meant for ;) )

So far, he is loving his car, the only thing we've done is run it stock on 2S and it does donuts pretty well which is what my kid likes to do.

The current issue I'm having right now is the rear bottoming out and bouncing as well. If I reduce the spring tension it bottoms out harder, if I increase the spring tension, it bounces more. I don't want to go out and buy new shocks. Has anybody solved the problem by changing the oil in the stock rear shocks?? I read this thread but didn't see the answer. I saw somewhere that someone was using 40 wt oil. I actually have a little bit of 40 wt in my box of supplies but wanted to check here before opening his shocks up in case I'm wasting my time.

Mine is in good shape. I'm running gray tension associated over length springs and 70wt oil
