Here's my built K6 4990 w/ LP Backflips. Absolute animal.

Oh boy. Do you guys know that you are enablers? 🤣
We've spent more of other people's money on here than the government has on the space program 😆

Don’t think I’ll ever buy a brand new race kit again. Used is the way to go. If you can get them from an actual racer then they’ve usually been really well taken care of
This is a good idea, which sometimes works out just be careful and choose wisely. I bought my eb48.3 for maybe $200-250 used and it was in rough shape, I bought my sct410.3 used and was in excellent shape for just $300. Either way, tear them down and rebuild it especially the bearings.

I almost bought a fully built D8T Evo3 decked out with option parts, ultimate mxr engine, and nitropro servos for only $650 before I got my NT48 2.0 slider for $135
Looking back I probably should’ve got D8T. Just was worried about parts availability though

There’s really some great deals in the Facebook buy/sell/trade groups. Marketplace is the only reason I keep that dumpster fire installed

I could have stayed on the island another week with what I put into that K6. (less than 2k) 😵‍💫🤣 But its a ripper. Can set it on asphalt & pull it & it'll boil all fours & not do a standing backflip & roll out to 70mph. In grass, it'll throw 15ft rooster tails. Fully blueprinted.

see I like the idea buying used but then again half the fun is building the car lol

I think you'll have more enjoyment and less frustration with a good RTR for your first RC. Plus it will do a better job of holding your son's attention than having to build it, order tires and wheels, order electronics, install all of that, and then, maybe in a few weeks, actually get to run it.

There are lots of good options for less than $800 and you've already been considering most of them. You will also need a quick source of parts when you start out, 'cause you are likely to break something until you get the driving part down. Check your local hobby shops to get a feel for what they carry the most of.

Buggys and truggys are great if you are racing on a prepared surface, but for back yard bashing, most don't offer enough ground clearance for me. A purpose-built basher with ~3" of ground clearance has been more fun for me. The Short Course trucks are fun on a baseball diamond or well-kept park lawn, but for me, not the best in a gravel pile or rugged hiking/biking trails.

Thanks sir!

The beauty of a 1/8 truggy is that you can do ANYTHING with it, and it is super easy to learn with, and they don’t get much more durable…
My vote too, 1/8 Truggy, AKA the Swiss Army knife of RC's. While I agree the Tekno is head and shoulders above a Kraton 6s, the Kraton packs a lot of value for $550. Add batteries/charger, and it's a solid performer. Dirt/street/grass/ramps.. They even perform quite well on a track with nothing more than a tire and gear change. Won't likely win any races, but sure are fun.
No affiliation with this listing, but $499 is a sweet price for a brand new Kraton 6s.

I bought my K6 used & the rabbit hole began. 🕳 It's a wild RC
I agree, used is a gamble. If it needs any real work can easily surpass the cost/efforts of buying new. I would only buy if either I knew the owner/history, or I was prepared to completely customize/rebuild it.

if i had to spend it all on one car id get a Savage X flux. or an Arrma 4s Outcast and have money left over.
if i could buy multiple cars id probably go Tamiya nuts. Midnight Pumpkin, Hornet, Monster Beetle. throw bearings or other minor hop up's in them if needed. id have more fun going that route.

XL 5.9 is next on my hit list. Never had a savage before

All these opinions and suggestions are great. Keep them coming. I have a quiet day at work today so this is keeping me going.

Also , which one would you guys pick if you had to pick one : Rustler 4x4 Ultimate or Maxx 2.0?

For me, the Maxx. My middle son has one and it's been a good truck for him.
I feel like the maxx would just be more fun with the monster truck geometry

I’d personally go with the rustler just because I’m more handling performance based
