Build Thread Arrma Talion EXB ONYX

This is my Arrma Talion EXB ONYX build thread. Started with a bare Arrma Talion EXB chassis, new. Built up with as many EXB parts as I could.

From there, I mounted Treal Aluminum bulkheads & the steering posts, center motor mount & center diff.

Front

Center diff mounts

Front steering complete with aluminum bellcrank & quad flanged bearings on the ADU 7075 ackerman bar.

Front complete with Ram Jam 4140 diff outdrives & 70k fluid, aluminum front hinge pin holders- all 3.

Same on the rear- 40k fluid - aluminum rear hinge pin holders.

Motor mount & 50t spur- 500k fluid

Driveshafts in & front aluminum chassis brace.

Next- Arrma V6 front & rear hubs.

Arms mounted- EXB shock posts front and rear.

Just Bash It solid aluminum servo mount & Power HD GTS-5 50KG servo

Teflon washers for the upper A arms, camber spacers.

Front tower mounted- EXB shock posts.

Front TPU bumper spring

Dual aluminum rear chassis braces

EXB camber links & rod ends

Scorched RC titanium rear skid

Towers mounted

Hubs shimmed & hexes done.

New V6 front hubs

Bigger inner bearings F & R

Fuze 160a ESC mounted on an aluminum tray.

SR315 receiver in.

Wires routed.

Front EXB turnbuckles & rod ends. These V6 front hubs have a double shear steering knuckle.

Camber shim installed. PEEK washers.

Custom servo steering link made.

Installed. 51mm long. Two aluminum M4 rod ends & a single M4 threaded center & a delrin center tube to complete-

Next-- The Talion body. Painted with Tropical Glitz spray paint. Overcast is the color. But I liked ONYX instead.

Next--- Shocks were built with Big Rock bodies & Kraton rods. TLR X-rings & TLR POM bushings & Kraton springs. 1000cst fluid.

Next--- Built of the Treal Aluminum bulkheads. Arrma aluminum cases & Mugen diff shims. 70/500/40 fluids. They set up really great. Ram Jam 4140 diff cups throughout.

Next--- almost there. Dual fans installed. All the wires internally routed. Shocks mounted. 20t pinion & a Hobbystar 4282 1780kv motor.

Wires tucked in.

Routed under the Power HD GTS-5 50KG servo. Perfect.

Used 6s shock pistons here for the washers for the dual rear aluminum chassis braces. Very rigid.

I want to add: I had a TP4040 1950KV motor for this rig. I had it mocked up, motor leads soldered on, & bench tested. I pulled it in favor of the Hobbystar 4282 1780kv motor. It's a little lighter, & should run cooler. I used 63/37 Kester 0.031" wire & a mini torch to solder the 6" motor leads in. All fixed up with shrink wrap. I took this TP4050 1950KV motor & put it in my Limitless. I think that will suit that build much better. Here's the mockup before I pulled it.

Detailed pics of the quad flanged bearings in the ackerman bar. Took a little figuring out with a few small shims. 12.9 ground shoulder screws. Zero lash or play. Super smooth. No drag. No up & down movement. The aluminum bellcrank has ball bearings & has been shimmed as well for zero lash or play. Solid.

Detal pics of the new Arrma V6 front & rear hubs- a few they are next to the V5 hubs- showing the difference. The V6 front knuckles don't use a pillow ball insert. Instead, the caps just bolt down. Drop in the pillow ball, install cap. Tighten the screws. No adjustment. They are nice & snug, but still smooth. No pillow ball aluminum retainers to back out.
