You don’t have to go as “all in” as I typically do, and will still have a plenty capable, absolutely reliable, and CRAZY durable truck for far less time, money, and wrenching… But it’s a good overview of what makes them tick..

They’re decent reads, but include a fair amount of useful tips/tricks/modifications etc., and why I do them.. And a TON of detailed photos throughout..

Good luck! 🤣🍻🤘
Excellent. Thank you. The more info , the better.

How old is your son you going to be bashing with?
He’s turning 13 in a couple weeks. He wants the Traxxas Maxx. However , he has a habit of obsessing over things (must get that from me) but then changes his mind and will obsess over something new pretty quick. So I know he definitely wants an RC. The question is will he still want the Maxx or a different vehicle? I saw him looking at something Losi last night but he didn’t mention it.

Not sure why you'd want to put a 6S in it.
idk, be different I guess... you have to go big or go home. now that I am thinking about it I'd probably put a castle motor and ESC in it and go all out. Go big or go home I guess

Tower hobbies has the ET48 2.0 and they have you select things like wheels and tires , electronics and batteries. Pretty cool.

Don't do that. Do your research and pick your own parts. They're just suggesting things they probably make the most profit off of. Trust me, the Horizon/Tower folks typically don't know jack about RC electronics and such. Just call them and ask them about specs for their Spektrum servos. They don't have a clue.

Ah , I understand. Thanks. I’m still heavily favoring the Traxxas trucks but I just wanna see what else is available.

Wicked and others here can point you in the right direction for a kit build, little motor can point you to good deals on the tekno kits (may be a Black Friday sale coming at one site he uses 🤔)

Getting back in and getting your son started though it may be best to get that instant satisfaction from Traxxas (or others) rtr

I agree. And like a few of you guys have mentioned , this hobby can be addictive, and I can always own more than one truck. Maybe Traxxas for now. And something more involved (like a Techno) down the road.

Totally agree with Lost's reply above ☝️

Grab you guys a couple RTR RC's. Then maybe grab a Traxxas Slash kit, since it comes with everything, and is a fairly simple RC to work on. It would be a great kit for you guys to assemble together, and kids will learn a lot from building and maintaining RC vehicles.

Kraton 6s if we didn't already have one. But since I have been wanting one for a long time now, a Traxxas UDR would be what I'd probably get.
I second the Kraton 6s. Things are absolutely sick nasty and handle extremely well. One of the guys at our local track even races his with the E-truggy class.

Would have to veto the UDR. They’re cool but a daggum pain in the 🍑 to work on. Would opt for the Mojave instead. But getting to the diffs on them can also be a pain

Used Tekno ET48 2.0 FOR SURE.

You know what they say; “One man’s trash….”… -and trash is CHEAP. 😜

You could ABSOLUTELY do one used in decent shape for under 800bones ready to rock with the right guidance..
Don’t think I’ll ever buy a brand new race kit again. Used is the way to go. If you can get them from an actual racer then they’ve usually been really well taken care of

One other thought since you are doing this with your son, maybe split that 800 into two more instead of one because it never fails one or two will break and someone is left watching 🤣 (and it’s gonna be you dad 😂)
I love this idea and that is what I would do. You could get 2 cars, plenty of batteries, a good charger right off the get go, etc.
