Boys just being boys 😎
Heck yeah! It was our first form of freedom. I grew in a time where there were no cell phones, and it was normal for your parents to have no ideas where you are most days, and you're only expected home for meals. Total freedom!

Breydon takes off and leaves his phone here, and I just laugh lol. He spent the last hour here the other day hanging outside. They were pitching a wiffle ball to each other trying to bat it past the invisible wall.

Kids still ride bikes just to cruise. They don't necessarily segregate into any specific discipline of freestyling. Of course, they will have fun just trying to learn tricks, but most will not try to take it to a serious, competitive level. Essentially, this described me and the neighborhood kids, back in the 80's. We did flatland, we built jumps, but most of the time, we were just cruising around, all over town.
Even today, there are still plenty of young kids that use bikes for what they're originally intended for: transportation.
That’s all I was talking about… I wasn’t knocking anyone lol, wanted to distinguish what use the Mongoose was gonna see, that’s all. -because the bikes today ARENT just built/used for what they were originally intended for… But often times they serve that purpose TOO. 😉🤙
Me now. 2023 Dyno Pro Compe 29"

Remember when all we had were “cruisers”?!? The SE “Widow Maker” comes to mind. The 24” version of the PK Ripper. 🤩 maaaan we’re old! 😂

Yessir, that’s all me, and my boys were aiming for! Awesome times! 🤘

I had bikes with banana seats and sissy bars. I even had a chopper with a 4' tall sissy bar.

The PK Rippers are cool. I nearly got a 29" Ripper. But I love Dynos. I still have my 88 Detour.

For us, anything with 2 wheels was a cruiser. I started with cheapo Huffy's, and when I finally got my GT Pro Performer freestyle designed bike, it spent most it's time being a cruiser. Just come with whatever you've got, and let's ride!

Those Pro Performers bring $$$ these days. What year was yours?

Sliiiiiiightly before my time, but I always wanted to build one. I thought they’re so freakin’ cool! I’d have rocked the hell outta some grip streamers too! Fight me bro! 🤷🏻‍♂️🤣🤣🤣

I tore myself up REALLY bad on my PK Ripper at the State Qualifier practice event.. That was yet another night in the hospital lol.. Those things were SOOOOOO light.. Seems like the 29ers are definitely taking over for us old guys now.. I wanna say I have seen some of your whips on AF? Love the old Dyno’s, Skyway’s, Hutch’s, and Kuwahara’s! 🤩

Probably around 82. I kept that bike until I graduated xray school in 1996. I left the bike at an older cousin's house when I landed a job in Hawaii.
I returned a year later, to find that they cleaned out their hoardesque garage, and thought my GT was one of their boys' old kids' bike, and got rid of it 😱

I bought this...and ran out of Hobbytown before I bought anything else lol

My 88 Dyno Detour looks identical to this. Mines taken apart atm. Rebuilding it. I had a hard time finding OG gumwalls & the pedals. New 1pc crank & bottom bracket & the correct black/silver chain-correct brand, took a bit to find. New chromo freewheel. Gyro still works. OG AME grips are fair. They aren't made anymore. Knockoffs are. The axles were seized. New bearings & such. WIP

It was in my storage for 20 years plus.

Funny story. My parents were poor immigrants too busy raising 7 children, so things like learning to ride a bike was left to the older kids.
I was actually never really taught to ride a bike. I would just ride around in the back of a banana seat as my 4th eldest sister's passenger. This was the case for years.
Then one day, while at a friend's house, my friend jumped on his bike and wanted me to ride one of his spare bike. Without thinking about it, I jumped on the bike to catch up with him. Something didn't feel right as I was riding that bike, and it didn't dawn on me for like maybe an hour later: that was my very first time riding a bike!
I guess all those times as a passenger had developed my balance.

I believe I recall Dyno being an offshoot of GT Corp.

Yessir. There were MANY under the GT (Gary Turner) Bikes umbrella..

The ones I remember for sure:

GT
DYNO
Powerlite
Robinson
Auburn

I personally never owned a Dyno (80’s freestyle wasn’t my bag), or a Robinson.. In my area Robinson guys were like the jocks of BMX lol.. 🤷🏻‍♂️🤣

Auburn was pretty much the crème de la crème back then.. Powerlite as well. Pretty innovative, unique, and high dollar stuff for the time.
