This makes me sad. The last time I used my snowblower helping a neighbor on my cove, I unfortunately broke it

Another project on my list.

My 20yo Simplicity has been a sufficient, zero fail machine that is starting to lose throwing power. It has served me very, very well in most conditions. However, its time to upgrade to a beast that will also throw the heavy,wet stuff. So, I'm going to start searching YT for recommendations a new thrower for the next winter season.
Recommendations, here, are also welcomed.

However, its time to upgrade to a beast that will also throw the heavy,wet stuff. So, I'm going to start searching YT for recommendations a new thrower for the next winter season.
Recommendations, here, are also welcomed.

They had a sweet Simplicity at the small engine repair shop where I purchased my Ariens. The Simplicity had external light pods, heated grips and if memory serves, an electric chute control.

It was a little beyond my price point, but a man can dream.

This machine has been great, it replaced a Craftsman that had never let me down either.

Most of my neighbor's don't have a machine; we've been getting hammered this year with snow and cold.

I watched this 90 pound lady out there struggling while I was clearing ours. I asked if she needed help, I did the driveway and she asked if I could clear the side walk. Well, I don't know their landscaping at all.

The machine tossed a few rocks.. I backed off and decided it's best if I just finished doing the sidewalk I could see. That's when I noticed I have a plow that no longer throws snow.

I was pretty pissed with myself but I am fairly certain it's just a broken pin.

Sorry to hear about your good deed biting you in the booty. Yeah, sounds like pin. Shockingly, I've never had to replace any of the shear pins. Even the one time a wad of newspaper, that was buried in the snow, jammed my impeller to a compete stop.
My Simplicity is no frills. No lights, no electronics, no assists. It does have a built-in electric starter, but I've never had to use it. It never takes more than 2 pulls, on the cord, to fire up that engine.

No BS, no frills big a$$ motor. Electric start is the only optiin I wanted tho I might buy heated grips because why not?

No EFI, electric chute... I put on poly shoes so it tracks, turns, slides easier on pavement.

The torsen style diff is the only thing I don't like compared to my old machines. It took a bit of adjusting to but I'm over it.

The machine is awesome but still not super expensive.

It has a warranty but I fix/service it myself. Its pretty simple design.

I clear a large driveway as well as a path around the house to the green house, shed, porch...

It works great on grass too.

I remembered you saying it throws the wet stuff very well. I'll look into this model.
I won't be getting the heated grips. I've recently purchased a pair of electric heated gloves, on Amazon for $50, and it is fantastic! Gonna really put it to the test, the next 24hr.

I have had pretty good luck with this machine. I got a clog in the fuel inlet. That was a bit tricky to track down but super easy to fix.
I take it apart every year and never seize the axles, lube everything, fluids.
Short of a few scratches I've put on it, the machine looks brand new still.

I wear rubber coated insulated gloves from Ocean State Job Lots. They are cheap and giant so they fit my mits.
Bright orange, easy to see, waterproof and warm enough so far.

Good luck with those heated jobs! Its REAL cold out!

I hear you on the diff, that was the biggest thing to get used too.

Only time I find it an issue is when I am doing the edges of the driveway and let's say there is ice or more resistance to the outside, it will pull that direction and you have to fight the darn thing.

I also have a pair of heated gloves I won but I wouldn't be apposed to heated grips.

My remote's second battery wouldn't power up and my phone went black so I couldn't take any pictures. We don't get very much real cold here so I can't complain.

Took about 2hr to do the 1st round. Snow was light and dry, but there was a lot of it. And still coming down in large volume. It was a bit of a pain with the wind constantly changing direction.
So, 2hr in 13°F, and the hands are completely dry and was perfectly warm the entire time. Even with good winter gloves, my hands would usually be cold and numb, by this point. The electric heated gloves are a game changer!
Next round is tomorrow morning. Now, I'm kicking back with a cold, refreshing beer.

With the cost of snow blowers these days, its almost cheaper to find a used riding lawn mower for a couple hundred bucks and spend the $400 at home depot to get a plow for it. Sometimes you can find the little mower plows on marketplace for like $100. RV antifreeze in the back tires along with some chains and they're unstoppable... That's how we plowed our driveway growing up for years and it was way easier/cheaper than pushing around a snow blower. At one point my dad even found a snow blower attachment for the front of our mower at the dump, but we never used it.

Just cleared about 1' of snow in driveway, raked roof, few paths in yatd cleared. Its still snowing hard so no need to get crazy just yet.

After climbing onto my icy shed roof, last week, to clean off the last snow dumping, it occurred to me: a roof rake is less hassle than pulling out the extension ladder; working from the ground is wayyyy safer than standing on a sloped, icy roof.
So, picked one up yesterday. I'll be Christening it later on today.
