I was 21 when I joined RCT about 2 years ago. I'm now 45.I was 14 around the time this site started.![]()
I’m 51. Thank God I’m dyslexic so I tell people I’m 15.I was 14, 64 years ago & I'm only 50![]()
As you can tell, I'm horrible at mathI’m 51. Thank God I’m dyslexic so I tell people I’m 15.
They say doing FIFO work ages you by +10 years (more that normal) and I reckon it's true. In the last 14 years I've gone from a young energetic man, into an stuburn old man. Although having kids may have something to do with it too.I was 14, 64 years ago & I'm only 50![]()
Not so much for me but my son (we are officially adopting our little friend who we took in last year so I refer to him as my son , just to clarify) who is 10 has been interested in a mini and he has saved up some money so I told him that if he saves up half then I’d pay the other half. Anyway , he (we) were looking at the Traxxas Mini Maxx and Mini XRT. Some of those little RC’s do look cool.I avoid mini's because of the tiny hardware, parts and my giant hands not working great all the time.
I would buy a couple to run inside the house if I felt like I could work on them too.
I've been tempted a few times by the Mini Z line up as well as by a few of the crazy builds these guys post.
I feel like the mini stuff can be built out to be very capable. Its not just the realm of 'toy quality' any more.
What mini's are you thinking?
I remember the Mini Maxx had diff issues. Ppl were putting Slash parts in to fix it.Not so much for me but my son (we are officially adopting our little friend who we took in last year so I refer to him as my son , just to clarify) who is 10 has been interested in a mini and he has saved up some money so I told him that if he saves up half then I’d pay the other half. Then my other son with a bday coming up has shown interest in getting a new RC. He has had incredible luck with his Maxx he got a year ago. That truck can take a beating and is still super fast with no issues at all. I think he likes the Typhon and some crawler , I can’t remember the name.
Hahaha , yes, it might look a bit out of place, but I always felt that every living room could use some form of a ramp. Thanks for the kind words. Everyone in the new house is getting along great and it’s nice that now everybody can have their own bedroom. less chance of bickering and sporadic arguments. The kids are up north camping with their cousins for a few days so we have a little peace and quiet around here which is always welcome and rare.I remember the Mini Maxx had diff issues. There is a used one for sale in Classifieds section I think.
I hear ppl like the mini XTR too.
Congrats on the new addition to the fam!
I was wondering how that worked out when you mentioned moving.
Sounds like you've got a whole RC family going now!!!
I think maybe the crawlers are looking more fun to me than hitting a 12' ramp at 50mph and then looking for the pieces afterwards.
Plus a 12' ramp would look funny in the living room.![]()
Thanks , manWelcome back @PainKiller
Ah yes , the temp gun. I forgot about that. I think I’ll go on Amazon today and check those out.Not always. Most fans aren't waterproof so theres that... Some track racers don't use them because it saves weight and aren't necessary on that set up.
Summer ambient air temps increase. So will the temp of the motor and esc. Its common to see fans on the esc and motor.
Use a temp gun to monitor your temps.![]()
Has anyone had heat issues with the motor or ESC while driving in the summer months? Is an ESC fan always recommended?
Speaking of Mordor , I was just there visiting and saw the sickest track right by your namesake (Mt.Doom)In my area a fan is mandatory, or it will go into a thermal shutdown. But it gets pretty hot here in Mordor.

Don't get a mini maxx. Avoid that money pit. If I could go back, I would have used that $$$ for something worthy. Not so much for me but my son (we are officially adopting our little friend who we took in last year so I refer to him as my son , just to clarify) who is 10 has been interested in a mini and he has saved up some money so I told him that if he saves up half then I’d pay the other half. I was just finding this out through watching videos about it. We’re going to stay away from that one for now. That guy KevinTalbot on YT has some pretty sick videos on RC’s. Very entertaining. And then I watch Mark Santamaria sometimes. Lots of Traxxas stuff. I came across an SWorks video that was cool too. A RTR buggy. I forgot the name.Don't get a mini maxx. Avoid that money pit.
