Nope.
It’s definitely the blinker bearings.

Why do I do this to myself? I had to have the Knight Customs Terra Buggy body kit, so I printed it up. Sanding has started and primer is going on as soon as the weather dries up. It's getting a candy paintjob. Haven't settled on a color but may stick with yellow/gold...may even use the wife's Cricut to print some Battleborn masks to keep the livery theme. We shall see where it takes us!

In the meantime, I'm taking the Optic out on the rocks and trying to tear up the old body, so I don't feel so bad about replacing it so soon lol

I am upset with you. You were supposed to go buy another Optic.

Why not do some 70's style stripes with multiple candies? Silver outlines. Black shading. I mean... it's a bug. Would be sooo easy to pull off.

Well, the day is young and I do have my TRX4-Sport listed for sale...so we'll see how that goes lol.

The 70's shaggin wagon style paint jobs are definitely flowing through my head!

I am going to try posting daily progress for the sake of accountability to finish this project...

Today's update: Applied some Tamiya putty to a few spots where the top layer of the 3D prints looked like dookie. Before the putty, I tried printing the door panels in 2 different orientations for cleaner prints and almost tossed my printer out the window. So now, we're doing good old fashioned body work!

I'm going to putty and smooth out the nose of the hood this evening and try to get some sanding done. Please excuse the workbench mess in the background....I am also building a garage storage shelf, getting the mountain bikes ready for the summer, and installing a new GMRS radio in my Jeep all at once! Dad Life!

Bondo party!

Got the door panels, rear engine cover panels, and roof panel where I want them with the bondo. Still have some sanding and priming to do for the hood and rear fenders.

Also started printing the Terra Buggy V8. My first foray into layer height thinner than .2 and hot damn it’s turning out good!

Body work on hold until I pick up some of the paints I didn’t realize I was out of.

Print work is NOT on hold! Still have a few more components to print. Can’t wait to go down the detail rabbit hole on this one!

Yesterday, I finally picked up the paints I need for the body. Digging out the airbrush today!

Also finished printing the motor. It turned out so good. Can’t wait to start detailing it.

Terra Buggy Update:
Body work: Gloss black base coats are done. Chrome coat is next, then candy/clear yellow.

Still trying to decide whether to buy a full second Optic or just order a full cage so I can essentially swap bodies. I like my Battle Born body kit and accessories too much to just scrap them...

Other updates:
I remixed the radiator cover STL that is floating around Thingiverse. Removed the power button hole since I don't run a Hobbywing system and didn't want a big hole in the middle of it:

Some masking and some chrome are going down today!

So many lessons learned through this endeavor. The biggest one: next time I paint a 3D printed body, the whole damn thing is getting smothered in Tamiya putty and sanded…not just the bad spots. The places where I had to make corrections to hide visible top layer patterns are the smoothest sections of the whole job. I’ve come too far at this point to start over so we’re shooting for passing the 5 foot test on this one. It’s going to get trashed on rocks anyway.
