My Optic kit, built all stock, seemed a bit bouncy. I have not been able to run it since installing the aluminum front axle. Can you suggest any suspension mods to smooth it out for spirited trail running? I'm wondering if it's as simple as going up in shock oil weight. How much do the tires/inserts have to do with suspension? I'm running vented JConcept Tusk 4.75" tires with the foam inserts that came with them.

Tough to say without some photos or video, but the first that that would jump out at me is too much spring. Check to see how much preload you're running.

Those are good tires and paired with the single stage JC foams they should be GTG.

Also, if I remember correctly the towers have a few holes. Lean the rear shocks in as far as they can go and lean the fronts back. That'll help slow the shock down a bit.

I'm still running OEM oil in mine so try messing around with some adjustments.

I feel ya, we're minus ten f right now. Believe it or not that's an improvement over the previous few weeks.

You're right on the towers, they don't provide much lean at all.

I find it does tend to "bounce" a bit. But I thought that's what rock bouncers did lol

Perhaps try a heavier oil to slow the shocks down further?

I've never seen one not bounce! Hitting rocks at speed, no matter how your suspension is tuned...you're going to bounce.

I guess I'm spoiled by the way my Baja Rey 2.0 F-100 soaks up the bumps in a more scale-like manner. And I've hardly run my Optic at all, other than a few batteries worth in the back yard when we had a short break in the winter weather. Just daydreaming of projects to keep me busy until Spring gets here. I have an Origin Classic kit on the way... that should keep me busy and stop me from thinking up non-existent problems with the Optic.

The photo of the Miller buggy makes me notice one scale feature the Optic lacks (although it would be subject to breakage)... rear-view mirrors. All the off-road trucks seem to use that same style of mirror.

You have infinite adjustment, providing you need either up, down, slightly angled in, or out.
