Ok thanks. I’ll be ordering the charger and LiPo’s soon. Just wanna get all the right stuff. Will these do? View attachment 204560
I recommend getting some with cables on them, and I will explain later why. You'll likely need balance extensions at some point, and I would grab these...
4Pcs JST-XH Balance Cable 2-6S 3S Lipo Battery Balance Charger Extend Expansion Plug Leads Adapter Conversion Line for RC Vehicles Lipo Battery Charging https://a.co/d/eMoXfkp

And these...
3 pcs EC5 Male to XT60 Female Connector Plug Conversion Adapter with 5cm 12 AWG Wire Cable for RC Hobby Model FPV Drone Car Lipo NiMH Battery ESCL8 https://a.co/d/hxo5hYY

Your charger will last you a good long while, but you can wear out the charge ports and balance ports on it, plugging cables in and out. Extension cables will not only prevent excess damage to your charger ports, but make it easier to plug your leads in.

In fact, if you end up with other battery connectors down the road that you need adaptors for, I would grab a couple XT60 female to XT60 male extensions as well, so you could always leave them plugged in.

And those short stubby ones aren't good to leave plugged into your charger to plug into. They extend out of the charger, and if you are plugging cables into them while they are plugged in, you are damaging your XT60 ports on your charger.

No problem at all, and nothing to feel bad, or embarrassed about-they get a lot of us lol.. That being said-they’re NOT total garbage by any means, just a bit misleading, and definitely overpriced I’d say. They DO get a lot of folks into the hobby though, and I will NEVER say that’s a bad thing.. There ARE also people that had great luck with their Traxxas RTR’s, and still run them today. But, there’s a fair amount of folks that EXIT the hobby quickly after, when they find themselves dumping another $500+ into what they JUST DID drop 5-6-700 smackers on, just to keep it running… And that’s more than understandable obviously.

Bigger trucks, unfortunately the scale applies to the money required… So what you would be looking at for the 1/10 Rusty-you’d be looking at for the 1/8 Sludge, or MAXX.. And when you go up in size, now the 1/8 kits come into the conversation; Tekno, Mugen, Kyosho, Associated, Xray, Sworkz, HB, etc… And not in any reality can an RTR grade truck be a contender with any of those guys.. Also contrary to what many may think-they’re not THAT much more money, and you get literally TWICE the vehicle, reliability, DURABILITY, and therefor; experience.

I think the MT10 would be a superb, and capable introduction to the hobby, and if you wanted to move on to an MT kit, or truggy or buggy kit after deciding this is for you (and your boy 😉), then you likely couldn’t have picked a wiser path to make that happen. You have absolutely done your due diligence to set you guys up for success IMHO. 🍻🤙
This info right here is absolute gold. I can’t thank you enough for such sage advice 🙏🏼

Awesome. Thanks a million. I’ll check these out now.

Oh I know man, it was just that “own 85% of the companies out there” bit…😅 and I mean “mainline” is subjective as hell, and obviously opinion.. in MY opinion-there is nothing at all about anything RC that is “mainline” to begin with lol.. but regardless-even if they own (20) companies; that’s not even close to 85%…
I was engaging in a bit of speculation and a lot of hyperbole, so I'm not sure why you are trying to correct something that wasn't meant as hard data. Here's a list of all the companies that I'm aware of that HH owns.

Here is a list of all the brands and companies Horizon Hobby owns, including those acquired from Hobbico and others:

Now we have something concrete to debate :p
Although my whole point was just that HH owns a ton of crap these days, a bunch of which are some of my favorite companies.

HH is an HPI distributor??

HH is an HPI distributor??
Nope, sorry. Hobbico was the distributor and HH bought Hobbico so that got compiled in the list I was building, but Hobbico hasn't been the distributor for HPI since 2017. I also removed futaba as they are now distributed by Big Squid. My bad, I should have checked in to that a little closer, but that's why I made this list.

Because it’s a discussion forum, and that’s no where CLOSE to 80% of the RC companies out there. Relax man…

Also folks can’t tell when something is “speculation and hyperbole”, or how you meant something… just sayin… 😅🤷🏻‍♂️

I'm perfectly relaxed, just having a discussion.

I had already acknowledged the fact that those numbers weren't correct before you even said anything, and I acknowledged it again after you said something the first time, but you keep telling me that what I said isn't accurate. I know it's not accurate, and I knew I didn't want Painkiller thinking that was really accurate which is why I came back and posted right after I said that, "I have no idea of the real number but after acquiring Hobbico in 2018, HH is pretty much the biggest RC company in the world now." That way, I conveyed to him that I was pulling a number out of thin air and I didn't really know the true amount, just that I thought it was a bunch.

Letting something go for three days, then bringing it back up is why I said relax lol… I wasn’t attacking you.. You said something I thought was way off, and I said that.. that’s it. I sometimes reply to a notification without seeing every last post following that reply/post, or comment-which was the case then as well. Even if I had-I didn’t see any reason to take pause over what I said.. As you said-I’m having a discussion (on a discussion forum), we both know that neither of us go around attacking or picking fights with other members here, so I think we oughta just move on.. I thought we already had on Friday.. This is RCT-not AF.. 😎🤙

I've been sick most of the weekend and not on the forums to respond is the only reason.

The listing should say the connector. Yes they are already on. Plug n play. IMO Powerhobby batteries would be mediocre & fair. Not bad. Ovonic makes really good batteries. I've had great results with Zeee. I have a NHX Muscle Pak that's been really good.

You need a 4s EC5 lipo?
I've had good luck so far with my Ovonic but I only have a couple cheapo's and a couple from RDQ that I used once as comparisons...
My Granite just blew a wheel right off the truck using an Ovonic 3s so yeah! 🤣

Feel better soon!

Heres the top 10 LiPos, most of which are all budget batteries.

After some hard thinking, and if having an extra $800 in pocket to spend was a "thing", a couple of HoBao 1/10 scale ARRs would be in my hands. Of course, I really need to buy another vehicle for daughter to learn to drive on. Oh, and I still got $3000-ish left on truck loan. Probably a new clothes dryer, and dish washer will be soon needed as well. Man, who am I kidding. That extra $800 will never come around for me. Just sayin'.

Ok, this makes sense as is but FOLLOW THIS...
If you take the $800 that doesn't exist and add it to the $3000 you owe, you could put that into making your 1:1, full r/c conversion, buy yourself a new radio, have money lef over for the HoBao and washer... THEN pay 1/10 of that back!
See??? My R/C logic is WAY more fun!!!
😎

A fair rule of thumb is that you want a high "c rating" and high mah for strongest output. Mah being longevity, "c rating" being a controversial rate at all, means the current output in simplest terms.
My Ovonic are 130c 9000mah.
They push my Granite 4x4 with 3200kv Spektrum system for about 30 mins of run time.
Size matters so make sure the battery you pick will physically fit your holder or tray.
(when you post your build thread, I'll be able to see which its got!😉)
