Brakes are for sissies! 😝

So they move the braking surface to a small diameter disc instead of the side of the wheel, and now ya gotta use automotive style brake calipers with dual pistons to stop a bicycle? I remember the front brakes on my 10-speed were strong enough to lock the front wheel and send me face first into the pavement. I miss the old days.
The pincher brake systems suck.

I never had a bike with brake calipers, so I don't have any comparison. But I never had any complaints about the brakes back in the 80's. I never had any brakes at all on my BMX. But I did on the 10-speed and they almost worked too good on mine.

Lots of noise and vibration but little in the speed reduction area. Kinda like the drum brakes on the 70's dirt bikes we had. Worked a bit until you got them wet. Then they didn't.

Just ordered a front disc conversion for our Chevelle.
I just bought a rear set of OE Brembo for my car. They look really hard to install so I put them in my trunk. 🤷‍♀️

No difference in stopping distance so far but theres a loud clunk coming from the back now. 🤔

I take back my statement, at the time when I had bikes that had the pincher brakes, disc brakes wasn't' really a thing and the pincher brakes definitely stopped me so it was kind of a unfair statement on my part and adjusting them were a bit troublesome at times especially when the little pads became worn.
To me, disc brakes are much better and I will never go back to the pincher brakes.
I would much rather have liquid pushing a piston to stop me than a cable pulling two tiny little pads
together on a rim.

which is ok because I'll just ride it in town and use my MT bike for the trails.
My MT bike in 3rd gear is about the same as my road bike in 1st gear.
The Shimano derailleur is butter smooth so no need to change that out.
It has the shift levers on the stem which I don't really care for so eventually
I'll go with the clicker shift style on the handle bars.

Discs are the way to go. There's a lot different with them, but not really since pinchers worked best with a true rim. Same with making discs work at their best. Make sure your disc itself is true and spins flat. No or at least not much side to side drift. Then make sure the pad to disc clearance is good. Otherwise most everything else is adjusted for comfort and riding style.

So you would need a bit smaller crank sprocket on the new bike if you wanted them to have similar ratios right? You keep at this and it won't matter anyway. You'll have legs like a big ole bullfrog 😆

Yes a smaller chainring which is the front sprockets on the crank or a larger cassette which is the rear sprockets.
I'm going to leave it just like it is because it's perfect in town, "no hills".
LOL I'm more concerned about building the biggest muscle in my body, not my assticle but my heart. ;)

Bikes in the 90s and 2000s had garbage brakes. Tge old friction brake i had sucked on everything except when I put bontrager British pads on. Tgey were $45. Great on a regular bike and amazing on a motorized bike. On tge gas bike I burned tgem stopping twice at 32mph.

My trek roscoe 8 has disc's. Most of my stopping is with the rear. Grabs like a dirtbike or atvs.

As for no brakes been there. Blew a few red lights because it changed at the last minute and I had no brakes or piss poor stopping power.

Disc brakes are the bees knees for sure. I have dual piston on all, but my road bike (that one is rim brake). There quad piston too, but I've never needed that kind of stopping power.

Cable actuated brakes are so simple to adjust. I did bleed the hydraulic brakes on my mtn bike and it was probably beginner luck, but went surprisingly easy with the Shimano system.

I splurged on a mountain bike purchase once. 2000 Enduro Comp. One of THE BEST things I ever decided to do. I was hard on cheap crankshafts. Hayes disc brakes FTW. Yes, it would be hard to go back to anything else.

I don't ride like I used to. Two miles away from my house... highway being built took care of the best trails to ride. 😞

Looks like you got some cool stuff coming, I have to wait until i get paid next month before i can get anything RC related since you might know for reasons. I might buy some new tires for my buggy once i get out to Arizona when me and my family move sometime next year.
