So I'm interested in building an off-road Rally car, from scratch, no kit. I enjoy the build process and always loved the rally look.
My idea is very much in its infancy and will take time to complete, but I'll get there! I'm calling this my Let's get Nerdy build, because I'm also planning to track parts, costs, etc (I love excel spreadsheets). I can post these too so folks can see what a scratch build would ultimately cost. My goal of course is to keep costs down wherever possible.
For starters, I've begun looking at the body shell(s) I like and marrying that with a chassis.
I've narrowed it down to these two bodies:
With that idea in mind, I'm looking at the LC Racing EMB-RA chassis, it's a 225mm wheelbase with 190mm, so by numbers alone it should work.
If I go with the Quattro body, then I was considering the Traxxas 4tec 2.0 or a Tamiya VX01 chassis.
I want this to be an off-road specific rally build so I'd like to figure out how to get a little more clearance than the stock cars and of course more off-roady tires
.
I've only done a kit build previously, so this would be the next level for me to figure out all the parts needed.
Again, It'll take some time (as funds are available), so bear with me there...

- HPI 1/12 scale BMW 2002
- 225mm wheelbase, 200mm width
- Tamiya Audi A2 Quattro
- I believe is 257mm wheelbase.
