You've heard of a "deer in the headlights"? Roos are the same. Plus they sometimes jump randomly. They will be jumping parallel to the road, then they'll randomly change directions, sometimes into the traffic. There are dead kangaroos everywhere on the side of the roads. When tourists visit Australia, they usually see at least 20 dead roos before they see a living one.
Most dangerous thing about hitting a roo is, if they are standing upright, they may go through the windscreen and hit the occupants in the face. Often resulting in death. That's why you'll see vehicles with big tall "roo bars" or "bull bars".
