The materials I work with create a bunch of static, I have gotten used to just grounding myself or just touching thr metal tables before I do anything. It is hilarious to watch the unsuspecting walk up to my table and get zapped. 🤣

What do you do?
I do large format printing, signs, presentation materials etc. We use a lot of plastics and laminates that create a lot of static when handled, kind of like rubbing a balloon.

it always seems to hurt me to. and i already shocked the crap out of myself.

I discovered, when I was like 12, that if you hold a paper clip in your hand, and you touch the other person with the paper clip that you will not feel the shock, but the other person will. Works also when you need to touch a doorknob and you are all charged up. You will see the spark to the doorknob, but it will not be painful.

I have asked how this works to many electronic engineers, medical professors, and even my boss with a PHD in astrophysics and none of them knew.

We do not get that much static build-up here in Florida, it is too humid. But if some of you northerners will try it this winter, let us know if it works for you.

RE: substations. I have worked in 500 kV many times and one day in a 800 kV substation, and yes people, you never 'touch' anything; you slam your whole hand on it quickly as possible. Whole hand will spread out the current so it only tingles for a fraction of a second. The 230 kV and 345 kV substations never bothered me.

The paperclip acts as an electrode. It has less resistance so the static charge leaves at the path of least resistance.

Well my dentist app. Was going to be Monday but it got moved to sometime in January due to insurance stuff between insurance and the dentist

Secretly, they are hoping you will get a few more cavities during that extra time. They have been reading your posts. 🤣

Eat some more Oreos so you will get your moneys worth.

Eat 'Oreo's and Cheetos right before your appointment and don't brush your teeth. 🤣

...and don't shower from now, until after your visit.

at work. warehouse is currently 55 degrees. my hands are turning purple.

Purple is a very regal color. 🤣 Kind of hard to focus on work when your not comfortable.

and now my boss has the back loading door wide open. feel the breeze of cold air. and breath in the dust cloud from the gardeners leaf blower.

I had that problem last week. Our warehouse is only at 61F right now, that's where my desk is. I don't mind the temp so much, but if it get's lower it makes work more difficult.

I'm pretty sure i have some kind of thyroid problem. i have major problems maintaining/regulating body heat when its cold. i also have raynauds disease that causes blood flow/circulation problems mainly in my arms (elbow down) me and temps below about 67 don't mix well. i pretty much walk around all winter with purple hands and stiff achy fingers. what makes it all the more fun is ill get so cold ill start to sweat. its as if my body is trying to warm itself up but never making any heat. over exerting itself doing it and goes into cool down mode. so ill be freezing and seating at the same time. thus making me colder.
i just had to run my hands under hot water for a couple minutes cause i was loosing the ability to move my fingers.
and its up to 57 in this warehouse!

Nope, that does not sound fun. 😕

My co workers think there is something wrong with me, because I am wearing shorts and a t-shirt all year. I just tell them they are wimpy Californians. 🤣
