So, What R/C Did You Run Today?

You bought a new RC! :)
Been wanting to pick up one of these little guys since they've first came out. While at Walmart today, I remembered, and swung by ABC Hobbies, which is just right down the road, to see if they had any in stock. They had about a dozen of them. So, I came home with one.

I did the same trail run and hike today with my H10 Optic that I did yesterday with my Origin Classic. I learned a lot about the strengths and weaknesses of those two vehicles.

The Origin Classic was vastly superior in off-trail driving and rock crawling. I thought the Optic would do better, with its incredible approach/departure angles and lower CG. Instead, its long wheel base limited its turning radius, it frequently high-centered, and branches, saplings and twigs were often caught between the open wheels and the chassis. I was surprised at how different their abilities were. I'm more and more impressed with the Origin Classic.

But on the trails, the Optic was capable of speed when it was appropriate. It handles well at a spirited pace while the Origin Classic's short wheel base makes it crazy at high speeds on the bumpy trails.

I think I'm even going to go up another tooth on the pinion for just a touch more speed with the Optic. It will be my choice when I'm staying on the trails. The Origin Classic will do the off-trail bushwhacking hikes. It is really nimble in the woods with its tight turning radius. The Vanquish Falken WildPeak M/T tires on it do a great job.

Both sound like a lot of fun!
Great pics too! 😎👍

Ran the 1/24 Deadbolt after the motor swap. Went from the Micro Komodo with the caseless esc to the Mini Komodo Unity. Nice having fewer wires, a bit faster and very smooth crawl control. No chatter coming out of foc like the Micro. Never could totally tune it out. I'm happy with the Mini with factory settings, only had to change motor rotation! Score another for Furitek, I also have the Cedar in a Furitek FX-118.

Now that's what I like to hear! :thumbs-up:

Like adopting a puppy at the pet store. Good for you. Whats tge foot print on these? I'm looking at two smaller ones for my dad and I. Unsure on scale and brand. Keep leaning towards trx4m.

These are small. A bit too small for my crawling areas around my property. These are better for inside the house with DIY obstacles. Because they're so small, obstacles are easy to make and/or construct.
1/24 are still my preferred size for mini crawlers.

Here, just to compare:
SCX30, SCX24, FX118 (Don't mind the 74mm  tires)

Ran this clean one owner around the pond today. This is my wife's first ever RC. Its been through a lot in 5 years.

I replaced the factory brushless with a hobbywing axe combo right after she got it. Not because it broke, just an upgrade.

Its had a lot of different tire/wheel combos but she likes the current treal wheels its wearing.

I ditched the factory front bumper to help the approach angle and changed the shock oil at some point.

The steering servo is the only thing I've replaced because of a failure. I've never even changed a bearing.

She did manage to break off the driver side mirror but the passenger side is still holding on.

I'm not trying to praise Traxxas by any means, but credit where it's due.

This thing has taken a basher type beating and still crawls like a champ!

My new Rlaarlo MK-07 V2 is all blacked out, plus its very elaborate light system (LEDs that can light up in various colors/patterns) offers a red/blue police strobe mode. The whole package just seems to invoke "law enforcement" of some sort.

I thought a small, subtle logo on the door would look right. I first thought "C.I.A." Then, "F.B.I." Then "D.H.S." or "Border Patrol." But I settled on...

😄

I took it out on a trail run before applying the decals. This thing is way more capable than I expected. I should have taken some photos of it conquering the challenging sections. I guess I was too busy having fun!
