It took a while but I eventually got everything nic and neat. Some cutting of the esc cover was needed to accommodate it's larger size. I left the pinion alone in favor of seeing a direct comparison between the this new 13t motor and the 17t that was in it yesterday.

I wasn't planning to swap this combo into this....but the 2/1 esc in my ruckus started heating up during some bench testing like crazy and no longer has reverse. So the smaller original has been stolen for that, and I will have to find some place to put a separate rx.

Took care of not being able to fit a heatsink. Got a 5 pack of these.

And then cut a custom shape on the bandsaw to go around all the interference.

Fixed the steering today. The parts I ordered worked out great. 2 aluminum steering rods done. And now I have the other 4 rods from the kit left over for other things. I used this kit, the smallest rods are the right size for the steering on this. https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B0DT9Z36JH?ref=ppx_pt2_mob_b_prod_image
when i bought this kit 2 days ago, it was 10$.....

13t motor and 65a esc combo. New top speed with stock 17t/91t gearing.

With me still adjusting the steering I may be able to smooth things out to get 32 mph out of this setup.

The price is right on those arms. I hope they last a while!
I bend pretty much every alum part I've purchsed.

The car is FAST now huh? Thats pretty crazy for some pretty mild mods! Nice!!!

I'm curious how those heatsinks work out. You've got a fairly exposed motor for good air flow. I am gonna try a fan blowing directly on my motor to see how it works.

Good luck hitting 32!!! 😎 👍

For reference I watched a video on a guy who did a brushless conversion with a 4700kv motor and I believe a 90a esc....he is only going 35mph in the same car with stock gearing.

Changing the gearing makes a huge difference. You get speed and temp control at the same time.

Different tire height will get different results too.

Tweaking time for sure! The suspension will be getting a workout at these speeds for sure!!! 😎

I know there is a group that will disagree and feel that speed is everything. Speed that isn't controllable on the surface you plan to run isn't useful to me. Am probably going back to the 2nd motor and different gearing till I get everything I want.

I generally look for performance and suspension mods first, speed last.
Bearings are usually my first upgrade in any car.

Sometimes its fun to find out tho! I had a lot of fun pushing the Hornet and even recently a DeeRC.

Theres a fine line between optimal power and total destruction!!! 🤣

So far, this car seems well worth the price!!! 😍

2nd 17t motor back in. I will double check the top speed since the stock esc is a 40a, and the new model is 65a.

I remember you saying this car has bearings. Thats cool! 😎

Smart to detune a bit while you shake the car down and dial everything in. 😉👍

That wing looks great up there!!!
If you look at the speed and acceleration graphs from the 17t to 13t, the 13 is faster, but I think I win races against you with the 17. The 13t needs almost 90 ft to hit full speed, on a 50 ft straight away that's useless to me.

There are ppl running high turn, lower kv motors with slipper eliminators... quicker in and out of turns, not top ultra speed on straights!!! And thats how to win on a smaller (1/10 scale) track. (Need to stay away from the walls too!)😉👍

I built my Hornet for max speed and it was FASTEST to hit EVERY wall!!! 🙄

We live and learn. 🤣

I have just returned from some testing. Now with the 17t motor, 65a esc, buggy front tires, 70wt. Oil in the rear shocks, increased rear spring tension.. .we have a winner!!! Just on the edge, but I can run clean laps staying on the dirt around the baseball diamond using full throttle on the straight away. No brake, just back off turn and punch it
