Back to it :)

These two steps are pretty much just assembling, and attaching the lockout links for the rear axle.

Next up is mostly links, I went ahead and assembled all of the links at once.View attachment 265426

If you look in the image on the right hand side, (below the next image) it shows two ball links going into the center of the axle where the links go. This is another mistake as there aren't enough ball links in the kit. There are however plastic spacers, which is what I used.

More linked goodnessView attachment 265432

This step has errors, the straight rod end should be a curved rod end. They do not give you enough straight rod ends. Lots of little mistakes. Some of the completed link measurements are also incorrect. View attachment 265433

Mounting motor to bottom skid, not much to it.View attachment 265437

Attatching links to center skid, easier to do if you dont try to do it positioned in the chassis like they have it. Once again a mistake in the instructions, the grease should not be on the rod ends, it should be on the set screws to help them go onto the Delrin skid.

The set screw have to travel a long way into the delrin skid. This is a difficult step. I actually broke a set screw and had to order another one, so I am back on hold until it arrives. I got real lucky, actually it wasn't the set screw that broke it was my hex driver (snapped off inside). There was just enough screw left showing that I could grab it with my pliers and back it out. Two more turns and I would have been SOL. I wonder if heat might have helped?

Now I'm waiting for the set screw and a new hex driver. 🤷‍♂️ But, hey, I made some progress even if I was hoping to get a little further today. That's it until next time. :)

On the homestretch now!! 😅

Glad to see ya getting some time with it buddy! 🤘

Looks like you could take a dremel with cut-off wheel and cut a flat-head slot in that grub screw and get it out just fine.

Possibly, but have a new set coming. $4.00 for ten of them. Going to have to find something to use the other nine in. 🤣

What in tarnation?

This thing is frustrating me and I'm not even the one building it.

Instructions are lacking for sure.

see i understand why its taking so long, if i ran into that issue I'm stumped and breaking something probably lol, you're just being smart about it, i have been wanting one of these kits since they came out, I've watched a few people build em on youtube and most just glossed over these problems so they can keep getting free stuff from them, this has me sketched out majorly about this kit cause I'm not at the level where i can confidently just see and fix that issue. i go by the book and when it doesn't match i mess up, ( have so many arrma parts for the big rock and traxxas slash parts) trying to repair an old version that has discontinued support, hell i end up ordering i think 4 sets of driveshafts before i got the right type, cause i was going based off my incorrect understanding of the diagram, or the version of the truck.
makes me both excited to watch but at the same time nervous to buy, love your building and how you write it up bro

This being my first build from an actual kit has been interesting to say the least. With an RTR I can just put it back how I found it. With a kit you have to go by the instructions which in some cases are not very clear, or just straight up wrong, which doesn't help much. I do however feel like once I get it figured out it's going to be a solid performer. Getting closer, need to start thinking about my paint scheme and how complicated I feel like making it.

Just give it a few years, you'll be building stuff with no instructions. :thumbs-up:

Still Waiting GIF

Yeah, yeah, yeah, l know, it's about danged time I got back to this build. 😜 🤣

Ok first up I have to remember where I left off, oh here we are. Mounting the motor.
View attachment 258079
One would think, this is so simple even Doom can do it. Well yes, but there was a hitch, but first things first.
The motor...Hobbywing Quicrun Fusion SE 1800 brushless motor esc combo.
View attachment 258081
So attaching this to the transmission should have been straight forward, but...the mounting screws were to long for the motor. After looking through my bins, I came up with bupkis for a shorter screw that would work. So on to the next best option, a couple of washers, which I do have in my collection of stuff.

Got it all mounted up nice and snug. :)

Do what works, nice job🤘🏼

Ha! I got to work on it two weekends in a row. 😜
I got my new hex driver, and set screws. I reamed out the hole just a little bit and put the new set screw in, no problem. Which means all the links are now attached.:thumbs-up:

Next step secure skid and side skids to the chassis.

Once again a mismarked part in the instructions, the part marked is longer than 33mm.
PSX_20260215_201537.webp

Here it is as it sits. I had to unhook the drive shafts and re align them, because I wasn't paying attention and had them out of phase.

Next up will be assembling the shocks, but that is for next time.

Wow! You might actually get this done before it's discontinued 😜

So are you enjoying the build so far?

So are you enjoying the build so far?
Mostly, it's hard to not be distracted by other projects. 😜 I would have enjoyed it a bit more if I had a little more experience, and I didn't have to decode all of the mistakes in the instructions. But I am very pleased with the results. the only issue with the actual kit, was the hole in the delrin skid plate was a bit tight. I can't complain about the quality at all. I just want to get to the painting part! :thumbs-up:

It's HPI, it's already discontinued, or they got bought again, then discontinued it. LOL
