So i picked up an element comp fox kit at btc this year (2026)
Super stoked to start building it. Is my first real kit.
I picked this over the others because I just dig element trucks.
My first crawler was an element ecto so it seemed fitting to ME that my first KIT be theirs as well.
(O I also have 2 ectos now too)
I'm super excited to start on it but alas... it must wait a bit.
I need to order another quick run motor for it
Going to swipe the raw 500 servo and direct bec from the ryft for it
Gotta shop around for some good tires
Thinking I'm going for upper middle class with this truck.
I just want something that tears up the trails and gets unstuck easier than the rtr trucks I've spent hundreds on upgrading lol .
I WANT a Vanquish truck still been eyeballingthat one @MVRCA has for sale for a little while. Might try to talk him out of that still muahahahahaaaaaaaa... now he already said no
I think I ruined things with him when he saw the mud baths my trucks get lol (I jest...I hope??)
Haven't even busted the factory seal on it yet

@Doom!
The race is on bro lol

Dangit, your going to screw up my schedule! 🤣 Congrats man!

i had a short night at work and then couldnt sleep so i decided to start on the trail killer truck.
since i broke and repaired so much on the ecto, this kit is flying together for me. each step so far I've been like ok i recognize this.

step 1 thru 5 is all axle stuff, I've replaced the axles on the exto thrice at least, i put it all together without the manual lol

then we got to the gearbox, i swapped the rtr transmission over to overdrive so that was also super easy, I've actually done this 3 times. I'm very familiar with the stealth x gearbox lol. added the overdrive option obviously.
the fox motor mount is really badass tho way cooler than the ecto's.

i took the brass diff cover off the ecto and put it on the fox. i also added the brass link mounts i got for the ecto to the fox instead.
putting the aftermarket stuff i have on the ecto onto the fox i decided tonight

added marine grease to the gears in the diffs as well as the portals. added the blue juice to any metal contacts,

its starting to look like a crawler, tomorrow or the next day I'm starting on links and shocks.

I'm a little uncomfortable with the amount of extra screws i have at this point tho.... i triplle checked and added all i was supposed to ... o well this is a normal thing for me and we have already moved on lol

SHOWOFF! 😜🤣

got the servo installed, working on last links and running into issues. I'm probably just tired. gonna attack it tomorrow with fresh eyes. only a few steps left.
rear lower links dont wanna line up for me i think i have the rod ends in wrong postion. dunno

well well well...
I've been stuck for 2 days on my links. i just coulnt get my geometry right my front were kicked forward too far and my rears wouldnt reach. I've been frustrated trying to figure it out...
then i go check out @Doom! comp fox and instantly solved my problem.

heres mine

and this is @Doom! has his correctly installed, can you see where i messed up? dont scroll down yet!! see if you spot the difference

gonna skip a
few lines
just to
make it
longer
in case
anyone
actually wants
to see if
they can spot
the difference
like i did

its a simple mistake

now that weve wasted some space.
i had my entire skid plate in the wrong position!!!
i had it shoved in the forward hole while his was in the rearmost position!
that cost me like 12mm!
the front axle was slammed downward and my rear was slammed upward!

now we have it in the correct position
I'm about to rip into this shock bag.

i have a set of brass shock mounts for the enduro. they would fit this truck. but would that be counter productive for the carbo fiber rails? i dont have the scales to weigh it.
i DO have a set of the fancy shmancy new proline rotating wheel weights for her tho!
STOKED!!
trying to decide which truck is going to donate its hobbywing motor for this build. such hard decisions.... i may make a poll? why not ill make a poll.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who confused himself building this thing. 🤣
I started my shocks last night, but got interrupted with chores. :(
I'm about to start mine now, wife gave me the night off but my wrist is in a bad way so having issues turning the drivers.

I'm going to try to get my shocks done after dinner. :thumbs-up:

Well that didn't happen, ran out of energy. Might take them to work tomorrow and work on them during lunch.

they went together really easily, but i was missing the 4 shims it said to install in the instructions, i built them without and this morning i checked, no leaks soo far

made some more progress on the fox, mostly done tbh.
shocks went together easily see above post,

other than the skid plate issue, it went together like a dream. few issues with the instructions, but i didnt use them a whole lot. more of a set of guidelines. its basically an ecto with links instead of trailing arms. mechanically anyways.
gotta score a body and tires.

o i put my read diff in backweards. so thats pretty on brand for me.
rear wheels go in opposite direction.

the ecto gave its heart up for the fox.
it donated brass diff covers, motor, wheel hexes ( when i can get the damn things off the ecto that is) steering plates, as of now even its tires!

the shocks feel really plush, i didnt have the correct oils i wanted, was going for 30wt in front and 50 in the back, i only had enough 50 for the rear, and i didnt have any 30, so i added about 1/4 of 40wt in with some 300cst the kit came with mixed em up
its a temporary solution until i can order the right oils.

so turns out i have a few temp solutions lol but they are working and its coming along.
waiting on a set of club5 husky high clearance links for her.

working on a color scheme and trying to decide on what body
I'm leaning towards a tucked body, i already have a power wagon and anvil body, both running cab only. most of my trucks end up with just a cab.
so kinda considering going with a full truck, something like a warlord, or along those lines.

the carbon fiber rims are blood red, and I'm wanting to do either red and white or red and black, in my head the truck looks like its got blood splatters all over it with trail killer in red bloody letters on the door? i dunno it sounds good in my head but when it comes to paint day it will probably just end up red lol

I checked last night and I think it's another mistake in the instructions, I didn't have the 4 washers either.

took the fox out without a body, just to see. o man i was thinking this beast was similar to the ecto? o how wrong i was.
this things a beast, it ALMOST crawls that big step I've been trying to get up and over for awhile now!! once i get a body for it ill throw some videos and pics up.
such a beast already.
