Sorry Doom, another Comp Fox build has entered the chat 🤣

So a few of my friends and i have come up with a bit of a challenge build to do with eachother.

The premise is to build a rig under a few certain rules/restrictions and then unveil them to eachother Top Gear style. Then, put them through a 4 stage competition and see who comes out on top. The big reveal and comp day will be September 20th

So heres our made-up ruleset ~

- Must use original ax10/scx10.1 axle and housing set. Dog bones MUST be retained. 1 steer axle and one locked out axle. Modifications to gearing, angle mods, adding weight is all permitted.

-2 channel only, steering and throttle. No Y harnesss's, no dig, no winchs, no multiple motors or esc's etc.

-Must be full rail chassis, minimum length must be equal to or greater than static wheelbase.

-Must have a licensed body of some sort, idea is to eliminate the generic comp cabs such as anvil, creep, power master, reefs etc.

Thats it, everything else goes!

So I've been hemming and hawing on which chassis to use as a base for my build.

Id damn near settled on making my own out of aluminum and running a Meus goldrush gearbox and FMM but i would have had to pinion ALL the way down to even gain some semblance of gear reduction

Now i wont lie, the Cattleman is a joke of a kit, and I'm absolutely no great fan of how Element did the portals on the comp fox ~ probably the only modern comp truck you can put 19 year old axles in and it be an improvement 😉 🤣 ~ BUT the value here was undeniable and who doesn't love to kit bash

SO, heres the plan as we sit

Compfox kit - built mostly to book spec, use as much parts as possible, toss the axles and body mounts in a bin

Because I'm stuck with dogbones my steering angle will be poor at best, so I'm going to try and combat that with OD. Most of my comp rigs run 18 - 22%. With this truck I'm going to shoot for 26 to 30%

I plan to modify the stock dogbones to try and achieve more angle, but i dont want to sacrifice strength too much

If you are at all familiar with ax10 axles you know gear reduction isnt a thing 🤣
Luckily with a stealth X that really opens up my options. I'm aiming for *roughly* 45:1 FDR in the front axle and 62:1 FDR out back, i will math this when i build out the gearbox

I plan to beeftube both front and rear axles for strength, probably run steel or brass up front and just aluminum in the rear to keep weight down

Front brass doesn't exist for these axles anymore, and I don't want to add weight in the wheel/tire combo. So I will likely try and get some brass stock off of amazon and make my own knuckle weights

Planning to run a full length tucked body as I'm sick of doing cabs, but it will need to be heavily compcut to fit my tires. I have a patina paint job theme in mind already

I have a ton of stuff on hand already, and mostly everything else is on order, so let the build begin 😈

Layed everything out. The stuff on the right wont be used in this project

Decided I'm not really gonna go by the book, ill reference when need be. Tossing the chassis together

Pretty suprised to see the amount of pinch they put into this chassis..

This machined delrin skid seems like a properly nice piece, though

Didn't appear to be threaded, so i ran a tap through it

Weight savings! JK..

Skids in now, just tossed in some short screws for now, i will replace these eith 40mm when i install the links

For now I'm gonna leave it here, waiting on some parts to come in!
