Too cool, but I'm a Bronco guy...

Went to a grad party today, took a trip in the way back machine. Dad is the 3rd generation of a family we used to race off road with.
He inherited a couple of the family toys...
Dad's (RIP Tim) last race truck . Never titled, never been on the road, lived inside the Ford Rouge plant when new. Story is unclear as to how it left and came to be the race truck.

Grandpa's (RIP P.T.) 71 Torino 429 CJ
4-speed drag pack. He bought it new in Texas. Never seen winter but been parked since the 80's over an oil leak!
Seriously clean under the dust!

@Suburban_Hooligan would have HATED this VW meet on Father's Day!!! (not enough time to see them all!!!)

This was about a mile from our house.

Everyone we met was super nice! Everyone wants to talk about their cars!

Even our Doggo got in on the fun!!!

Great time! I hope its back next year!!!

It was actually a very small meet. You see most of it.
Every single one of the owners was REALLY into their cars.
I enjoyed that the most. Talking with real ppl.
There were a couple trailers in the lot but almost all of them were driven there.

It was fun! :cool::thumbs-up:😁

that's normal, Volkswagen roughly translated means "peoples car" and the scene is very people oriented. its also very hands on and DIY.
its a thing where you could have the nicest car in the show, but if you have an ego or you're as a-hole about it, you're basically shunned. nobody will give you the time of day. they'll even ignore your car. the flip side of that is you could have a total 💩 box. be cool about it, be at least making the attempt to learn and DIY your bucket and get welcomed into the fold. even the prestigious car club guys with the magazine feature cars are like that. they'll stop, talk to you, listen to you, offer up advice/experiences or just strike up a quick casual conversation.

a lot of shows in the mid west and east coast seem to have those. some times its a chalkboard, sometimes it'll be paint. but its mostly there for kids to get creative on.

another thing that's fun to watch that some shows do (it has waned in popularity in recent years but used to be pretty popular) is valve cover racing. imagine pinewood derby but the cars are made out of VW valve covers. i know there's a show in Texas that still does it and its a popular event at the show.

Love those ManX buggies. I helped my boss build one in the 90's. Supercharged 454 in the front, tube frame, tire frier for sure but it was a blast to drive.
