Okay you have that amp, The jbl amp that you have is actually is a two channel - one channel amp, they patent this, they are the only ones who have done this, You are going to take a rca cable and come from the pass thru. you are going to need to y cables, ones that have two males and one female. your going to take one of the y cable and plug the the male in to both red, with the other one you are going to plug both male into the white. Why use the pass thru at all?
Would it make a cleaner setup to Y from the original cables from the head unit and go to each amp?

I guess you could do that, but you want the cleanest signal going into your mid/high amp because the clearer the signal the clearer the sound. If your bass is a bit off or makes a little noise you wo'nt hear it as much as if it were in the highs.

If it was Yd at the original cable and went directly to each amp, wouldn't that be the cleanest signal going to both amps? I'm not arguing, just wondering... I have no clue as to how / if the pas-thru alters the original signal.

It would be clean at the sub amp, but you still have the room for interference at the y. The pass through is a y that is built into the amp.

Just GOT and read the manual for the amp.
Its fine for me to just hook the signal up to one set instead of two. There are two encase I want it to fade from front to rear. With a sub, I dont see needing that.

New question.....
I just got a JL 10W3v2 4 ohm duel voice coil sub. Its rated Optimal 150-300 wats and will handle up to 600 but 600 is the top end.

I have an issue here now. My amp is rated at 300w@4 and 600@2. Reading the directions I can not run it @ 4. I need to wire the duel voice coils in series or parallel with the choice of 8 or 2.

I have no clue if my amp will run 8 but I do know it gives me 2 just fine. Do I run it at 2 and and turn down the gain?

Do I have other choices?

YOu don't HAVE to run both voice coils, so you can run it at 4 ohms. Just run one coil to you input cup on the box and you'll be fine.

I'm going to see if I can exchange it for the duel 2 ohm unit today. It was a close out BUT.. The sales guy gave me this on. He asked if I wanted a 2 or 4 ohm unit. I said 4 not knowing any better. He also gave me a 1 QF box and it asks for a .65.

I may be SOL. They never told me but the receipt says all sales are final. They open at 11:00 Ill be there first thing.

one sub you should be ok with a 4 ohm.. just bridge the two coils for 2 ohms.
your amp should run at 2 ohm fine.
your amp is rated at 600 but thats its top also..
how many channels on the amp? the music I'm guessing you listen to your not gonna tax that sub even with that amp..

my subs hold 1000 a peice top but I'm pushing them with a 2400 watt amp with no probs i got 2 2ohm dual voice coil subs with each sub wired to 4 ohms and the two speakers bridged to 2 ohms. sounds like two midgets wrestlin in a trunk full of soda cans..

I don't think i would worry too much about going over your rms unless your gonna have the biotch cranked all the time,it will kill your subs lifetime though,if he gave you a 1 cube box then tune to what you prefer,ed check this site out,it has all the info on the sub http://mobile.jlaudio.com/products_subs.php?series_id=11

I was all over the site last night. There is some good info there.
I tried to get a 2ohm unit this morning but they aren't taking any exchanges. Ill just turn the gain down. Shouldn't be an issue.

SO the original speakers I ordered Online got placed on backorder for 4 weeks.. Needless to say I canceled my order. Things always seem to work out for the best. A customer works at Magnolia (an audio video store owned by Best Buy) They had a 2 sets of MB Quart DSC 216s in the back room. They are a decent set Not their best nor worst, just a good solid set of components. I'm not thrilled at the crossover but I got a good price. 99.99 per set including a 4 year unconditional guarantee. If I blow them or they quit working for any reason they will replace them with a set at the original MSRP of the speakers. 325.00.

I'm going to use the 2nd set in the rear. Should I use just the speaker or should I also mount the tweeters? If I mount them in the rear what is a good place, High or low?

well using the second set of tweet's won't hurt,i would mount them probablly high depending on where your mid is.If your mid is in your Back hatch door,then i would mount them somewhat close to the mids,that would produce good sounds,but you could put them all in the stock locations if that's what your doing,just keep the mid and tweet close for the rear.The higher your speaker are should be better for sound so there's no "delay". or mud

I have a 4 door and they are in the front lower part of the kick panel. I may see if there is room to mount the tweets inside the door but I don't think there is. I will end up surface mounting them somewhere.

So, you think its best to use them?

I would use them,but in a 4 door i would mount them in differnt places,I would mount the mid's in the kick's facing you not to the side,i would mount the tweet's in the dash,and i would mount the other pair in the rear up towards the roof but not to high,probablly about height level for you since your probablly the one using the vehicle the most, then just mount the tweets next to it,closer you are the better,putting the tweets from the 1st pair would fix the constant noise from the door,it would be more frontstage,did you ever put your sub in a diff box,or are you going to change it? custom box's will sound better,just make sure to use a stiff board like partical or mdf,some people use other things but that's what i would do,and you can change out your head unit,but it wouldn't be cheap,alpine has naivgation systems but they won't come cheap just incase you want to equalize and kick your sound clarity up a notch.

I got the MBs mounted in the rear last night. I opted to take the easy way out and mount the tweets on the door close to the mids. There was no truly good places to mount them up higher that wasn't directly next to my ears behind me and the other place would have been behind the ears of the person in the back seat. Doing that would have been an huge amount of work and additional wiring. IMO, not worth the time and effort.

After I got them installed I let them up. WOW what an improvement. Ill work on getting the fronts installed tonight. I seem to only be able to get one door done per evening due to the sun going down. I got all the wire run for the front and need only to mount the speakers and tweeters, wire the crossovers, and put everything back together. I *Hope* to get both fronts done this evening. Once that is done, I will route and clean up the wiring in the rear to the amps and be done.

I removed the stock tweets and spent a lot of time mounting the new ones in the factory holders. They sit in the dash and are out of sight. The only non stealth part of the install is the rear tweets.
