So i just got back into rc's. I bought a protec prodigy 610ez from my local hobby shop. Was happy with it when charging and putting my 2s batteries in storage mode. Today was the first test with 3s and not happy. Took 47min to charge them at 1c out of the box and the one i did not run is at 1hr 40min on the charger and still going to be in storage mode. A hota charger will be in my near future

It's why it is so hard to recommend cheap chargers on here. They just don't perform well enough for today's LiPo's.

My Hitec RDX1 Pro easily charges my 3s 6600 mAh LiPo at 6.6A with some room to spare, I recommend it. Hota chargers might be the best though.

That’s because most chargers don’t discharge at the same rate as charging. So maybe you can charge at 1C (5000 mAh = 5A) but it will only discharge at 1A. Even discharging at 2A is slow. So if you have a fully charged LIPO it’s going to take a while for it to discharge down to storage voltage. I have multiple chargers that take a while to discharge a fully charged battery. Which isn’t a bad thing necessarily. Honestly in my opinion the slower the charge rate the better. Unless your running comps just pre plan and charge some batteries first thing in the morning. Plenty of literature on the internet about it.

The Hota has a 1600mA balance circuit, where most others in its price range have closer to 1000mA. It's the fastest charger I have used. I know there are better ones out there, but for around $120, I haven't seen an AC capable one that is as fast at balancing big packs, or storing a battery.

I'm not sure on all the Hota chargers, but the two that I have are able to do external discharging.

My H6 Pro even will let me do regenerative discharge function. I've not used this function but some people will take a marine battery to the field to charge their LiPo packs, and then dump the energy from unused LiPo packs back into the marine battery.

How important is the firmware updates on the hota? I'm just a simple woodchuck that does not have a computer or wifi

I have had mine for a year and never updated. It works as it should.

What is the difference between the d6 and the d6 pro? All i could see was output watts are a little different

Oh, ok. The Plus. The one thing I notice with that is the buttons. They look like the kind that eventually wear out. The case is also metal. That is one thing I love about the D6 Pro. The housing feels and looks like a very high quality piece of hardware, as opposed to other chargers I have had. Yeah, it is plastic. But a very high quality plastic. Kinda like comparing a Kyosho to a Tamiya.

The Plus, as far as I can tell is Hota's spinoff of the D6 Pro, which is really a Hobbymate charger. Claims have been made that the Hobbymate D6 Duo Pro and the Hota D6 Pro (exact same chargers), are made in the same factory.

Hobbymate makes really nice stuff. This Hota Plus version does not look like Hobbymate quality, to me anyway. I also personally love the scroll wheel on the D6 Pro, which the Plus does not have.

The extra power of the Plus might be good, but if I need more power out of my D6 Pro, I'll just get a DC power supply and have all the power I will ever need, in a very small package.

They are close to the same price once you add in the cost of leads and balance boards.
You want the charging lead to have 2 male connectors correct?

They are actually female that you need. The gender is based on the pins inside. Not the plastic housing.

Serious question. I'm new so I really don't know. Is there a reason one can't just set the battery monitor alarm to storage voltage and run their rc outside for 5-10 mins to run it down until the alarm goes off indicating you're at the preset voltage?

It's a whole lot faster than anything else lol. And it's fun ;)

That works, as long as your cells are all discharging evenly and they all end up close to each other.

Whats the ac wattage per channel on the d6pro? 200 per side or 100 per side making it 200 total
