Well it's official: 3month old Traxxas EZ Peak charger burnt out and won't charge anything. Traxxas or non-Traxxas. 3 months. 3 months! Cost me $75. Used once a day or every other day to charge Traxxas 3S battery. And now dead. I really don't need to add much else. I think the facts speak for themselves.

You got that right.
Pretty much happens with any Traxxas electronic tbh. randomly die bc they programmed it that way so you can warranty it so they can get more money.

Just out of fairness: I called the Traxxas customer service # and spoke with someone there who was most willing to help me out. I would just need to start warranty paperwork and send it in to them and then they would give me another one. And you're probably thinking for free right? 3months and warranty and all, but no sir. They would ship me another one. At half price + shipping. Again, you be the judge.

Or something like that. Well, I've already began phasing out my Traxxas electronics. New 3S and 2S batteries are both HRB. I'm most likely going with the HOTA D6 Pro when I order a new one and I've been contemplating a motor/ESC upgrade lately too. Traxxas ESC/motors look nice and honestly I haven't had any problems with mine so far, but this charger/battery thing has kinda left a bad taste in my mouth.

Sorry to hear your ez peak charger died.

To be fair, Traxxas is the only rc electronics manufacturer that will send you a new unit for half price, and it’s a lifetime warranty. No one else has this.

So if your Traxxas Lipos are on the way out, brand new one for half price isn’t a bad deal considering.

I’ve had good experiences with my Traxxas electronics, including their lipos.

And the Hota D6 Pro is a forum favorite. I personally have the Hota S6, and the Junsi iCharger DX6. The DX6 is running on 24v dc power from modified server power supplies, and the S6 is running on one power supply at 12v.

The DX6 is a power house, puts my Hota S6 to shame lol

I don’t have the hota D6, but mine is a lot like it.
As other has said, get a Hota D6.

On top of that, I'd pick one of these up as well. This will allow you to charge your Traxxas "smart" batteries with any ol' LiPo charger which will eliminate any reliance on the Traxxas electronics slop you may have.
That adapter is pretty slick, eventually though, you will need to ditch those batteries as well.

Yeah, I think you're on the right path with the new charger idea. I can only think of a couple of times in the hobby where products failed abruptly... the negativity stays with a person for a long time.

I'm a bit biased, since I live way up in the north with the bush folk where getting my hands on batteries is difficult to say the least since i just can't order them on Amazon. Traxxas batteries aren't all bad. Best value? Of course not... But, if you already have them, you may as well use them till they die. No sense in throwing out a perfectly good working battery you already own just because we don't like the name on the sticker.

Those adapters are great and I still have mine. They come in handy when you end up closing your curtains, turning off all the lights and buying a RTR Traxxas rig in shameful secret like we all end up doing at some point. Especially when they come with a battery like the mini maxx and you don't want to toss out a brand new LiPo or use the slow USB charger it came with. 😂

By all means use the battery till it dies.
Yes I bought a mini maxx too, I enjoy driving it, when it isn’t broken. I don’t use the battery anymore since I swapped to proper electronics.

I have an xt60 on my stock speed controller. It hasn't died yet, despite me overheating it every time i bring it out (back to back batteries in tall grass will do that) and the 2s system is plenty powerful for this little truck. I still use the stock LiPo with an adapter to xt60. Thats another 15-20 minutes of rallying on the table in my eyes and one less garbage Lectron Pro i'm forced to buy at the LHS. 😂

I have been looking at the D6 Pro lately and may end up getting it, but I've also had my eye on the IDST K2 Zip also. Specs are very similar. Cost a little more, but just looks really clean and personally I like the buttons over the wheel. Anyone had experience with those? Or that brand at all?

It’s another $50+ for the screen that props up? Eh….?
