Ok, I’m back from my local rc store. I had no idea Vanquish or Redcat existed. The guys there told me Vanquish (like the stance) are “competition crawlers” and somebody mentioned how the Redcats can keep up with the vanquish…I honestly thought Axial and Traxxas was the top of the line.
I’m thinking about getting me a 1/10 crawler, which of those two should I get?
Please help.
Thanks

What do you want to do with it? Do you want a competition crawler, or do you want a trail truck that can do some crawling as well?
I seriously doubt I’ll ever compete or anything like that. You couldn’t have worded it better, I want a trail truck that can do some crawling.

For the record I was set on a SCX10 deadbolt but got redirected to the Vanquish.

For a trail truck, the TRX4 is awesome. What is your budget? They have a sport version that is cheaper and they have their fully functional versions with remote selectable locking/unlocking diffs and 2-speed transmission.

The Vanquish H10 Optic is another great trail truck, and it comes as a kit as well if you want to build it yourself and learn alot along the way. You have to provide your own electronics and wheels/tires with that option.

What is your budget? There are many options from several big brands.

I don’t wanna go over $300 ish considering I’ll have to do upgrades.

The SCX10 is a great platform. All of my builds are SCX10 based.
However, all the brands mentioned are awesome rigs. It boils down to
what you make of it.
Have fun with the building process along with the driving.

The new Basecamp is perfect for both your budget and what you're looking for in a truck.

Having said that, the Redcat Ascent is also a great option to check your boxes. I had one when they first came out and it took minimal upgrades (wheels/tires and some suspension tuning) to make it extremely capable. It kept up with all the Vanquish trucks on the rocks, even outperformed them in some regards. I sold it because I wanted to try out a TRX4 Sport and miss that Redcat truck to this day!

I’ve seen on many reviews people say that it keeps up and even outperforms $1000 rigs. I’m leaning towards it. I’m still researching so we’ll see, I just don’t wanna spend too much to start with. I know tho, at the end I will 😂. A review said this one outperforms any SCX10 🤷🏻‍♂️.

It definitely does perform. BUT the QC isn’t as great as the other brands. You will have stupid, easy to fix issues (for example, my rod ends kept breaking so I replaced them all with Traxxas parts).

Well, at $320 I’m leaning towards the basecamp. I can always upgrade it if I want to, I have nothing but good experiences with axial anyways. We’ll see.

Yeah, I see there is a previous model for $299! Other than the 6mm higher motor, what is the deal with that one?!

i agree on the ascent or basecamp, we have each and they are both really REALLY capapble right ouut of the box,
we got my son the basecamp at a 3 day camping crawling event, i brought my truck that id put around 300 in upgrades on (element ecto) well his basecamp ran every trail, beat the barn (mousetrap style course in he tobacco barn, 3 stories of bridges) my ecto did not, it broke 3 times lol,
then smashed every obstacle in our home course. the ascent is amazing as well, we take it as our backup truck whenever we go on a trail walk, it goes places others dont pretty easily. either one is a great choice.
i have found it easier to get parts for the basecamp tho, it being an axial scx10 platform theres a LOT of aftermarket support for it, whereas the ascent, which hasnt really NEEDED anything as of yet I've been having a slightly harder time finding parts for it other than from redcat. not saying they arent there because they are, but theres more directly geared towards the basecamp.
can't wait to see which one you choose
