I only have first hand experience with Axial, although a friend has a few Redcats.

I REALLY like the newish Coyote from Axial, but, $400 (whether with battery and charger or I have to buy my own). I have never spent that much (at one time) on a rig.

The Base Camp is barely any cheaper so not really a big deal.
Redcat has some more budget friendly options, of course.

Everything from the Danshee Ridgerock buggy for $160 to the Everest for $280 and all of those options come with Battery and charger.
Been doing some research and the Danshees Ridgerock and Ridgerunner both look like capable enough rigs for $200 or under. But I am not big on the motor on axel, not driveshaft deal.
The Everest Gen 7 for $280 looks to be maybe a decent option. But, almost seems more like a trail rig then a crawler?

Of course, there is the Everest Ascent 10 but that $340 and still needs battery and charger, which puts me in the Axial category. BUT, $ for $, is the Ascent 10 a better buy than the Coyote?

I am pretty familiar with 1/24 scale and smaller. I have learned a lot about Redcat even though I don't own one (other than a basher) so I am torn.

Would love feedback from people with actual, hands on knowledge with these rigs

they are both awesome trucks, i dont personally have experience with the coyote other than seeing a few in the wild, they are awesome tho
the ascent is awesome right out of the box as well. you picked 2 killer rides to compare bro lol.
if it were me (which its gonna be very soon lol) i would go with the coyote. then id make the other my next truck.

the part people are gonna argue with:
in my opinion having both the basecamp and the ascent. the axial has more support, redcat has it dont get me wrong, you're not going to have a problem finding replacement parts at all, or upgrades either, BUT the coyote has more. theres more support out there for the axial platform. if you search any part on amazon or one of the foreign sites, they use the scx10 platform as their selling point. theres just more of it designed for the axial already, a LOT of scx10 ii parts will fit onto the scx10 iii platfrom, i have a rear bumper on my basecamp from an scx10ii, even tho its a 10iii, not all the parts are gonna cross over but there are a LOT of similarities.

redcat hasnt had the same support from my experience.
theres just more stuff out there for the axial platform in comparison to the redcats. i dig redcat, but i would pass on all of their crawlers except the ascent series. they showed out when they made that truck and it kinda showed where all of their others were lacking. I've had 3 redcat crawlers and have traded all 3 off. i got frustrated with the aftermarket support availability.

i would get the coyote, then when i could id get the ascent

my 2 cents

Hey Tall,

Based on what you shared I would lean towards the Redcat Gen 7 for overall platform flexibility and affordability.

The Coyote if you want to really push the budget for a new platform that is quite capable.

That's my 2 cents 🙂

I've found that building my own crawlers are far more enjoyable.
Redcat crawler are awesome, I have the Gen 7 and Everest 10. The Everest is what my wife drives.
All the crawlers that I have built are an Axial platform. You can't go wrong with either one.
I would also look into the Element line. @Doom!
@MVRCA could point you in the right direction if you are looking into competition crawlers.
He has some amazing builds.

Gonna be a lot mixed opinions, all legit feedback. Take it all in, search the aftermarket world (yes, there will be more for the Axial), and decide exactly what you want this rig to become. Redcat is no slouch, and will be more budget friendly. All the research is what makes buying a new rig fun 😃

I'm partial to the Element Ecto. Any of the big name companies are going to have a capable platform, depends a lot on your taste, what kind of look you are after. The $400. Range is where you need to be, to get something you will be happy with.

A couple of my element rigs.

The new Axle is nice but not on budget

Everything one read here is pretty much everything my research has come up

And I agree from what I do know

One thing I am factoring in is that my local shop carries the Axial but not the Redcat (in the 10th scale - they carry a lot of the smaller stuff)

And if I'm spending $350 - $400 on a rig I'd rather buy from them instead of buying online

One thing I don't like about the Redcat is the body. Not a big deal, but I think the Axial Base Camp/Coyote looks better than the Ascent - although I do like that the blue one has the removable bed

Honestly like was said here I don't think I can really go wrong with either

Between the ascent and the coyote, id purchase the coyote

The ascent just has major design flaws that can be hard to work around if you decide to go further with its development in the future

Gear reduction is a major one in my opinion, the coyote comes with the gearset to match the included lcxu with straights. If you swap that in to the stock truck it takes you from mid 40:1 to around 65 to 70:1 iirc. This will give the weak brushed motor an actual chance at having drag brake

Again, if i remember correctly the ascent is almost maxed out in its gearing range just below 40:1, someone correct me of in wrong there

You will also get alot more support with the axles, such as ease of finding OD/UD gears, UD/OD portal gears and cheap brass

The lcxu also gives you an option to ad dig if that tickles your fancy

Just my 2 cents

Unless you're in a hurry, I'd put at WTB add out. I'm happy when I see $0.50 on the $1.00 when selling used, so you could pick something up quite nice for $300 range.
This, but it just depends on your area. Around here, people want new prices for their used stuff. OL

sheeeee, yall are lucky people round here wanna charge 500 for a box stock basecamp

I share the mentality of price it to sell as well.
Unfortunately lots of yahoos out there. We seem to have two different camps, people selling knock offs and people selling stuff for new prices.

I should have got a picture of this moving sale listing. Everything must go but no negotiations.

Look at some of these prices guys..

Same around here, I don't know how people can beat something up and expect to get new prices. I tend to sell cheap, or give to a good home.
