I started down that path.
I am working on a build myself, with a lot of help from members here.

From what I have seen, the Fusion seems to be one of the best.

I also like the Axial Coyote, but, i am sure the Fusion is a better rig out of the box

Hey Rosta,

That's a really good platform and it performs well out of the box! It comes equipped with good electronics and things like brass weights that others charge you extra for.

The Coyote that was mentioned is also a good truck with lots of aftermarket support, leaps and bounds above Redcat. Not that it matters much here because the Fusion we're discussing doesn't really need anything.

To me it comes down to use.

If you plan on comp crawling I would look at the Fusion. If it's more trail focused then perhaps the Coyote is a better fit.

I've heard good of tedcat but I also heard it lacks upgrade and aftermarket support.
I only own the ascent18, but aftermarket support for the smaller stuff is really good.

I have also been looking at 1/10 crawler/trail truck recently. When these guys had mentioned the coyote ...I came up with the carisma coyote and only later discovered the axial coyote.
I don't own it so I can't speak to anything other than it looks awesome and comes in builders kit with a clear shell for under 300.

The fusion looks to be a good rig but, as others have mentioned, Redcat is still trying to get a foothold and doesn't have the aftermarket support that other more popular brands have.

There are a lot of options out there. The Traxxas TRX4 platform is pretty popular and has tons of upgrade parts.

Vanquish makes some excellent quality kits if you'd prefer to build one yourself. The Vanquish mullet looks really interesting.

Axial has been in the game for a long time and people seem to like the SCX lineup. I have the Capra from Axial and really like it.

Element RC has good lineup of unique trail trucks that seem to be popular as well.

I guess it depends more on what you want from a crawler. Hard-core rock climbing or a decked out trail truck. Personally, I recomend one of each. I like having options.

Redcat Fusion, Element Ecto, and the Vanquish Stance are all great performers. The Redcat Fusion has the bonus that it already comes with my favorite 2 in one motor ESC combo (the same one I put in my Ecto).

I kind of new this was gonna happen where I would get recommendations from a lot you guys. I appreciate it. I was actually really curious what people did at the phase just past where I have been. No 10th scale crawler...lots of curiousity, overwhelming amount of options. Which 1 did they finally pick?? Did it still seem a good choice after some run time...or did it turn into a money pit of upgrades they didn't count on trying to meet expectations?
No question you guys with experience across multiple crawler platforms are an excellent resource. I also value the novice who has just gotten in and will have a different perspective on the experience in many cases.

I can't help but notice in a world that has gone brushless at every possible opportunity the 1/10 crawler game is still overwhelmingly brushed. Even when you get to 500$ and sometimes more.

I started with a TRX4 Crawler Kit. Bought a sport body on eBay.

The kit comes with 2 speed trans and locking diffs, both controlled by servos. Both of which are not useful if you are mostly crawling. I modded that and it's very capable & durable (built like a tank). It's not very scale though if that's what you want.

I bought an SCX24, did some mods. Was in to it for $450 and it was never great. it was OK at best. Got rid of that

Bought a Redcat Ascent-18 APEX. The Redcat is awesome, no complaints.

I bought an SCXIII Basecamp from another member. He did all the mods and it's excellent. The only damage was I (my wife) broke the panhard mount and bent some links. The base camp links are pretty small. It now has Titanium Samix links.

Scale -> look at Axial
Performance -> look at Redcat or Vanquish
Durability -> look at Traxxas

I have a pair of scx24s, both with a decent amount of upgrades. The c10 has been getting stuff in line with better crawling performance. The jlu became a monster truck. I also have the redcat ascent 18, it's been a great little rig from day 1, but has seen a few upgrades. None of them are suitable trail walkers though. The mini stuff is good to backpack in and crawl in a particular spot, but you basically wind up carrying it from 1 spot to the next.

I went to the local hobby shop today. So it begins

Loved the video! That's an interesting slot beside the steering servo. Guess you can add an accessory winch? Maybe? 🤔
I've thought it looks very capable from videos that @jjbigfly has posted. A fun little truck.
I wish I wasn't on temporary monetary freeze due to "lifeing" things in the way😥 Hope you got a good deal. Was it @RudyF6 that got one on a really good deal, at $289.99? That's pretty affordable really. Value for money and all that. Then a week or 2 later I got the same email and had a strong desire to pull the trigger, but I didn't of course. Because, well, life... Anyhow, happy for ya!

Support the LHS as much as I can....today I can.

Yup. My LHS didn't have one though, so it came from Horizon direct.
So far I have no complaints. Very interested to drive it. I did plug in the battery and turn it on. On 3s the low speed control from a dead stop might be a bit twitchy.....dead flat, on top of the workbench is not a fair test though.
That battery/charger is my only complaint, but the combo price can't be beat!
I bought a battery with a balance lead because I don't have a "Smart" charger, and the included USB one took almost 5 hours!!

I have a smart charger for other reasons. Am gonna run a timer when I charge it. Am debating if I wanna chop the ic3 off, or get an extra as a backup. I will find out more after I run it.
