Gotcha. That one has an aluminum chassis and brushed motor setup. The more expensive “Fusion” model has a brushless Hobbywing Fusion setup but it’s a locked down RTR version and doesn’t allow as many setting changes as the aftermarket HW Fusion setup. The more expensive model has more bells and whistles but the carbon frame is a known weak point. I would recommend the cheaper of the 2 any day.the ascent, the previous one.
Wow, really?Gotcha. That one has an aluminum chassis and brushed motor setup. Any RTR at the $300 price point will perform similarly. None of them "need" upgrades but (as a general rule) their tires and servos aren't going to be amazing...BUT nowadays they aren't even that bad!Wow, really?
Correct me if I’m wrong but it seems like the basecamp is going to need a ton of upgrades.
No problem at all.thanks much, that was a great explanation of it. What’s the difference between the red and blue ascent? I noticed the red one is a bit cheaper.
I wish I wasn’t so OCD with choosing my next crawler.
I figure the Vanquish stance is more of a rock crawling than a trail truck. Right?
What battery would you recommend for the ascent? No problem at all.
Mechanically, there are no differences between the red and blue Ascents. The upcharge is only for the 2-peice blue body.
The Stance definitely is configured to be more capable on the rocks. I haven't driven one or seen one out in the wild. But, on paper, it sounds like it would do awesome as a crawler (comes stock with front overdrive, a comp-ish style chassis, and extra weight down low).
What he said.you want a small 3s lipo,
i use hoovo batteries in all my crawlers, they fit and last a good amount of time, like 45 mins to an hourish per battery

Thanks so very much for helping me out. I decided to go for the red ascent and I’m not looking back. I got the 1500 mah batteries because the 1300 mah were out of stock and they were going to ship in a month or twoWhat he said.
I like these for their price and high discharge rate but any small 3S pack will do the job!
Very capable with the right performance mods and the right driver!Hey, quick question, how capable are the SCX10s with the straight axles?
Awesome!! I put a Hobbywing Fusion SE 1800 in mine and loved it.Thanks so very much for helping me out. I decided to go for the red ascent and I’m not looking back. I got the 1500 mah batteries because the 1300 mah were out of stock and they were going to ship in a month or two.
So it seems, based on the reviews, that this rig will eventually need a better esc and tires. What did you get for yours?
I was thinking about getting these for it.Awesome!! I put a Hobbywing Fusion SE 1800 in mine and loved it.
I put mine through hell. Rocks, mud, dirt and sand, pulling. I'm sure portals are a bit better but I'm also sure you lose some cog over it.Hey, quick question, how capable are the SCX10s with the straight axles?
Those are my next wheels. I got the small 1.9s. Next is the 2.2 or 2.2 xl.I was thinking about getting these for it.

first things to swap out woould be the motor, i use hobbywing quickrun fusions in all of my crawlers, a HUGE step up in performance.I was thinking about getting these for it.

What tires would you get for those wheels?first things to swap out woould be the motor, i use hobbywing quickrun fusions in all of my crawlers, a HUGE step up in performance.
the second would be the servo, i burnt mine up quickly lol, ( I'm destructive) then id swap tires, or whatever order, those are the 3 areas it needs a little help in.
the factory stuff is fantastic, dont get me wrong, but its not as capabl;e as the stuff youll put in the truck yourself.
the motor swap to the HW frees up some space with the enclosed esc it comes with, and the power/speed/and control are a leap above the HW it comes with.
servo works really well compared to a reedy, but even the 25$ amazon servo is more powerful.
tires are gonna vcome down to your terrain.
i went with all the top names ( cause of their names and reputations) but i never considered that the guys in the reviews and videos were on rocks or dry packed dirt,
I'm on loose leaves and mud, so the tires THEY used didnt work for me so well lol,
the jconcepts ruptures are sticky and grippy but once their coated in mud they are useless slicks, but if I'm on rocks the big boggers ( like you linked) tend to not grab and grip the rocks but do really well in the mud.
you're gonna need multiple sets based on the terrain.
which means you probably need extra beadlock rims for said tires or you're gonna be spending hours on tire swaps before ewach drive.
i LOVE THESE WEIGHTED RIMS

they add 150g of weight BELOW THE AXLE which is important for stability and center of gravity to keep you planted on the ground.
/ my next upgrades to mine include a new transmitter/reciever so i can get a little more control out of my throttle, and the servo upgrade.
i was really pleased with how the ascent performed right out of the box and I'm sure you will be too.
like @doom, said your terrain dictates that, what are you planning on crawling thru? the hyrax tires are a good all round tire, works really well on our basecamp for my son,What tires would you get for those wheels?
