First paint jobs are always stressful.

Some steps that are crucial, wash the body really well with soap and warm water. I personally use Dawn and have had good luck using it.

Once the body is dry thoroughly, apply the window masks. Ensure you check from the finish side to ensure they're stuck down good. I use the back side of my finger nails to help stick them down.

Once you have all that done, if it's a solid color then you're ready to go. If you're doing multiple colors then this is the point that you would lay that pattern down, be it stencil or something taped out.

I use a light behind the body to check to see if I can see light through it while painting. Things will look good then you hold it up to a light source and see a thin area.

You're doing excellent so far, I have complete faith in the next step. You're already heading in the right direction by picking up the right tools.

Good luck with it!

So I have a question about using a stencil

I can make one with my Cricut

I'm only going with 2 colors, green and black

Green will be the main color, with black details

What I want to do is put the stencil down covering the areas That I want to be black. Then with the stencil in place, paint the green.
Then remove the stencils and hit everything with black. Since I'm painting from the inside. That should just fill in the blank areas black and then the rest would just stay the green, right?

Yeah, I hate 3-link setups. Every time I was at the drag strip you could tell the guys running panhard bars. Their ass end would shift sideways, sometimes violently l, depending on how hard the car launched. I never understood that stupid design.

Now this however, is a Watts Link, and they are slicker-'n'-snot...

That would be bad ass on the gas slash drag car that Johnny was working on! Rest in peace man. Sorry for the thread derailment, but where did all of his projects and cars go?

Oops, this was supposed to quote Creepy's reply on prepping the body...guess I missed hitting "Quote Message"

Exactly! One more thing though, use several light coats allowing to dry in between. First coat should be light to "seal" the edges of the mask, and allow to fully dry. Be patient, stay with even light coats. Prob the number one mistake, is going too heavy on the first coat, resulting in bleeding under the mask.

Another thing, if you spray the black last, back up your green with white before you peel the mask. This will keep any thin spots in the green going darker when you spray the black.

Absolutely!

It's hard to write a "short" painting tutorial post LOL

I back up brighter colors with either white or silver depending on depth or flake.

Update

Got the Hobby Wing Brushless setup in and the body mounted
Hoping to get the paint next weekend and get it painted the week after

Got a 3S battery and tuner card coming tomorrow

Definitely try to hit some trails and rocks soon

Picked up a bumper kit for the SCX10 pro off of Amazon
Didn't realize it was all plastic, and how narrow it is
I went to return it and they issued a refund but told me to keep it
I'll run it for now while I continue to look for something else
While I don't like the looks, it will give my much better clearance
Oh, and I need to install the fair lead thing that goes on those to posts with holes. I was in a hurry when I got home form work to get somewhere, and too tired when I got home
