I knew this was a great group! Yeah I put my new upgrade servo spring WAY to tight ,,my hobby shop just went straight to well ofcourse it went out ,,,YOU drove it on grass!!! I just needed a little help,,and got it here!!great group! Thanks again

The stock servos are junk and are prone to breaking easily although it sounds like you may be helping them along. The 2290 is ok and it will work but for less than $10 more you can get the black edition 2290 and its got almost twice as much torque. Its a high voltage servo though so if you went this route youd want to pick up a Castle 10A BEC in order to give the servo its proper voltage.

SW2290SG-BE - Waterproof Monster Torque High Voltage, Brushless, Digital Servo 0.11sec / 972.1oz @ 8.4v - Black Edition

If that servo 👆 doesn't work then nothing would lol
Glad to hear,I did good ,, thats the one on the way 👍 looking into that BEC next..thanks Graywolf

My strange hobby shop has the castle BEC in stock ,,but was pretty tight lipped when asked about options,,,I'm thinking of starting a conspiracy theory thread just about my strange encounters there,,anybody interested?👽

From reading through this thread, it sounds like your LHS is staffed by Walmart rejects lol. You were likely asking them questions above their pay grade.

Can't run an X-Maxx in grass 🤣🤣🤪😜🤣🤗😁🤗😐🤨🤔

No mechanics and like 4 desks in the middle of crowded shop .Oh and a bulldog under the center desk? They don't make it fun going to the hobby store like I fondly remember. Probably good they have no competition. Its sad really 😞

Do it!

I beat the crap out of one of my Xmaxx's today, IN GRASS!! Can you believe it?! The only thing that broke was a front hub carrier. Bad landing after a 3/4 back flip 😂. Oh still stock servo lol. I even brought some grass home as a souvenir.

That really sucks. Maybe you need to go in there with a some foam swords and fight them.

I had my servo go on my Hoss. I called Traxxas and they sent me a new one no questions asked. I had already put a Savox replacement but have a spare if I need one. I always run my Maxx in grass all the time and never had an issue. I run most of my R/C's on low cut grass. How you get thinks sorted and your X-Maxx. Traxxas customer support is pretty good IMO.

Yes Traxxas support was very good and also said grass was no issue!very nice folks,,just want to run like you ,on short grass 😀 at the park or whatever..

Vegas Mike, did this resolve your issue of going through steering servos? I'm in a similar situation. I have gone through a dozen steering servos under warranty during the first year of my Xmaxx 8S. My warranty just ended so now I'm trying to resolve this issue once and for all. I even sent them the entire truck months ago to troubleshoot it for themselves, which of course they replaced the servo and called it good, only to fail again when I got it back. My servos typically last 2 or 3 runs, on the grass and pavement then the steering starts to slow down minutes before quitting all together. If I remember correctly, when we installed the upgraded servo saver that came with the upgraded aluminum gear servo, I tightened it all the way. But even at that, the front wheels don't feel stiff at all and their is no mechanical bindage. I swapped out the receiever, which I don't think is the issue, but hard to tell because the current servo is dead. If it's just that the servo saver spring is too tight, I'd welcome that fix, at the same time be ticked off that my local traxxas dealer and traxxas themselves didn't figure this out. Thoughts?

Which servo you running the 2085 or 2085X. Well the 2085 is only 350 -360. The X is not even 100 more oz tourqe more. Look at Savox or Reefs, Power hobby. Shot there's one on Amazon that $55 and has over 900 oz tourqe. The Traxxas electronics are not that reliable and always haven issues. The 2085X is $100 to $120. Can get a much better quality servo for $20-30 more. Just a suggestion bud...

I can understand grass burning up a servo with big tires. That’s how I tune my saver on my max. Do circles if the lawn. Keep tightening the saver until I’m close to full lock. But leaves some play for crashes too.

I've seen a few people replace their esc and that fixed the servo issues. I'm guessing there's some kind of fault with the supplied voltage. You should be able to verify with a DMM.

Yeah its probably the crap VX-L system from traxxas. Which their electronics are all crap anyway. Never liked them even from my start with them back in the 90s.
Should throw a monster X8s or a XLX2 from castle. And never worry about it again... just my opinion though. The 2085x alot of people run that servo with no problems. But like you said they weren't running the VX-l

I think I'm a lucky one. I'm still stock motor, esc and servo. Now running 20/49 gearing for a few sessions. That being said, I'm not a huge fan of the stock electronics. But I also have limited experience. But I really beat on my truck.

You know the funny part is. I'm still 100% stock as well. Haha haven't fried or chewed up anything yet not one gears, esc, or the servo. And just like you I beat the piss out of it. I have over 32sqft of pegboard filled with parts for all my RC's. Just incase I do break something on one of them. But nothing yet on the X. And usually I break something every time out. Hahaha but the X is one SOB. That's why I love hearing or reading bad reviews or anything about the X. 9 times out of 10 it's nothing to do with the truck. And could have been prevented if only the owner did maintenance and gave the truck a once over when first bought. 😁👍👍
I have new servo and arms hubs. A bunch of parts. Just haven't needed to fix anything yet. I'm actually going to drill out the HD arms I have for it today. So I can fit the m4 screw bolts I picked up for the inner hinge and the outter hinge. And also looking at the castle monster X 8s and the XLX2. Trying to decide which one to pick up. Leaning towards the XLX2 esc. Most likely will get that this week or next

Oh I've broken a bunch of other stuff 🤣. C-hubs, arms, drive shafts etc etc. Just not the electronics lol. Skate parks, big jumps and bad landings.
