I’m new here…but not to rc trucks. I recently joined the forum for help with some arrmas that I recently bought to get back into it after a break. Diff trouble, dead steering servo after a week of ownership on the mini kraton, and now one of the batteries died after just a few cycles. In short a lot of trouble.

I bought an xmaxx 8s back in 2018. Not a single thing on it has broken, bent or worn out. I ran it last spring but dropped one of the batteries onto concrete and compromised it. I only had one set. The other battery is still stable in a storage charge state which I confirmed today. As far as the truck itself other than stripping one of the screw holes in the chassis years ago being overzealous with a power tool everything on it is original from time of purchase. It has been crashed, cartwheeled, smacked into trees and poles etc. and it is still perfectly functional. So in light of the headaches with the arrma typhon and mini kraton I just ordered more batteries for the xmaxx. I was considering a kraton 8S exb if I had a decent experience with the arrma but that has not been the case.

To be fair, I have owned a slash 4x4 ultimate that was nothing but trouble and a stampede 4x4vxl that needed some upgrades but overall traxxas has been great. I also had a mustang boss 302 that was excellent as well as a slayer pro 4x4 nitro.

The long and short of it though is an endorsement for the Xmaxx. 8 years, zero repair bill save for a dropped battery…

I too have an Xmaxx and have broken very few things, and tbh anything that has broken has been my own driver error.!!
On the other hand my Arrma Outcast 8s breaks every time I take it out, driver error or not, it just breaks… I got so fed up with fixing it, it got retired and now sits in my loft..☹️

That's awesome! I have never owned an Xmaxx but everyone speaks highly of them.

The Arrma 8s platforms have been less than stellar since their debut. I think a lot of people expected big things because they were killing it for years prior; each 6s release was pretty good.

I personally prefer traditional turnbuckles like what is on the Xmaxx over pillow ball suspension on the Arrma stuff. I had a Outkast and found the pillow ball retention screws kept coming loose. Other than that it was rock freakin solid.

Cool, I've owned 2 X-Maxxes in my lifetime both were the older RTR versions i sold my previous one to help save up for my future X-Maxx Ultimate later this year or early next year. I've had quite a few things break on my 2nd one although i got it used and abused but my 1st one i bought brand new never had a single issue with it. I'm hoping my Ultimate will be great too, Here's some pics of my previous 2 X-Maxx's.

Those are awesome. I want to get an ultimate but I can’t justify it since my original has nothing wrong with it. I once cartwheeled it down a hill and it slammed into a cement pole at the bottom of the hill. Nothing happened to it. It’s amazing how something with that much mass and momentum could slam into a cement pole like that and survive. I often wonder if the plastic has gotten weaker since the truck is kind of old now but I’ll deal with that as it comes…

Yeah i can understand that, Although i kind of feel in love with the ultimate since it came out and after it got rereleased last year and because of my old was i felt i must have the new one. I also want my next one the new ultimate to my final X-Maxx and i'll drive it into the ground or until i can't get parts for it anymore. I currently have an Outcast 8s EXB the old roller version and i outfitted with new RTR spec esc, motor and receiver and it's been an awesome truck but sometimes you can't beat an X-Maxx.

Well now you have me looking at the ultimate. I should probably be looking at the xrt ultimate but it doesn’t quite do it for me. It seems like a truggified xmaxx and the tires kinda turn me off…

Yeah, I'm sorry although i like the X-Maxx more than the XRT it tends to chassis slap more and if you live in really cold climates it will also break a lot easier than the X-Maxx. I saw a guy in Canada who i like his videos and he had lots of things break on his XRT to the point where he sold it and besides i already own an Outcast 8s EXB non RTR v1.

We agree on that. Given the current wrangling I’m having to do with horizon hobby CS over a dead lipo that came with a mini kraton I don’t really have any qualms giving Traxxas my money. I’ve never even had to deal with warranty claims or CS with them over 15 years or so of buying their stuff.

Getting an Xmaxx will hopefully be one of the next 3 rc purchases I make.

There's a reason it has the legendary toughness it has vs other 5th scales.

You want the chassis to slap and the XRT being a lcg 5th scale, is going to be more prone to chassis slap. That's just part of the lcg design on the XRT.

I've so far haven't had a problem with either Traxxas or Horizon although most of my Traxxas vehicles i usually pull the stock electronics after awhile and replace them higher quality ones from Castle, Spektrum or Hobbywing. I have started to leave my Horizon vehicles like Arrma bone stock unless i have issues. So far i've only owned 3 Arrmas and they've been decent cars for the most part although i have yet to use horizons customer service or even Traxxas'. For my new X-Maxx Ultimate i plan to immediately remove and sell the stock radio and esc then replace them with a Spektrum firma 160a v2 or Hobbywing Max 6 G2 with a Spektrum SR615 receiver to bind to my iXSR+

The xmaxx and hpi savage flux HP are my top two I have personally owned and can confirm are ridiculously durable. HPI never should have discontinued the flux hp. I would max out a credit card to own another one.

I currently have around 30 RC's of all different brands and types. Out of the lot, the Xmaxx is by far my favorite.

I've been in and out of RC since I was a kid. Back then ESC's were servo controlled variable resistors. Ran a Tmaxx for a few years in the late 90's until I got fed up with finicky nitro motors and stepped away.

My daughter was interested in RC so I gave it another shot with a rustler, stampede, and a few slashes. But when she lost interest, I seemed to as well. Then late one evening, doom scrolling through YouTube shorts I came across Kevin Talbot's channel sending an Xmaxx to the moon. Went to Hobbytown the next day and I've been all in since. The Xmaxx is what brought me back to this wonderfull many pit of a hobby.

Although it is quite durable, I've managed to break just about every part of it at least once. Frequent trips to the skate park and my obsession with seeing rc cars airborne has caused the majority of my breakage.

I dont think any RC collection is complete without at least one Xmaxx in the lot.

On a side note, I liked my Xmaxx so much I ended up buying an XRT to go with it.. 😂
Then later when they released the mini's, I now own a mini Xmaxx and mini XRT 😂😂

On a second side note, I truly believe my toughest truck in my entire fleet is the Xmaxx mini..!!
I treat it so badly and abuse it horribly but it just comes back for more all the time, poor little guy

New batteries for the xmaxx have arrived and so has good weather. Did my pre-run inspection of the truck and it’s good to go for yet another year.
