New batteries for the xmaxx have arrived and so has good weather. Did my pre-run inspection of the truck and it’s good to go for yet another year.
Cool, Can't wait to hear about after your first run with the new batteries i'm still saving up for my new Ultimate i have a few things to do on my other cars i broke my XO-1 right rear half shaft yesterday and i plan to get it fixed next month.

First run of the year today. No issues and had fun. I forgot how long a pair of 6700’s lasts!

Awesome, I remember my last X-Maxx would run for 45 mins to an hour on x2 ZEEE 6,200Mah 4s 80C packs i also run them in my Outcast 8s EXB. Both those trucks run a Spektrum Firma 160a v2 black edition ESC as well which is a upgraded and rebranded HW Max 6 (v3) G1.

I got a little over an hour today and called it quits before hitting lvc. I read on horizon hobby that it is not recommended to discharge new lipos past about 50% for the first 5 cycles. I’ve never heard that before. Do you run a lot of spektrum ESC’s?

I have a Firma 160a in my Outcast 8s, a Firma 150a in my Felony, a Firma 100a in my Vendetta although my Slash 4x4 Ultimate runs a HW Max 10 SCT, My XO-1 runs a Castle MMX8s and my Race buggy (Team Associated RC10 B74.1) runs a HW Xerun XR10 Justock G1 so my Horizon\Arrma vehicles run factory Spektrum ESC's and my Traxxas vehicles run aftermarket systems. Of course my race buggy runs an aftermarket competition grade system in it. I've had incredibly good luck with ESCs and Motors i only fried one when i accidentally soldered a connector on backwards and that was years ago. I also didn't know that thing about batteries i also run all aftermarket batteries from Amazon specials to SMC and Pro-Tek race packs.

You must have to have really bad luck or mess up to fry an ESC(like you said). I have never had esc problems across all the major brands. I have had problems with just about everything besides esc and motors. What do you gain from running those over the stock traxxas ones? Just curious.

With a Hobbywing or Castle system you get a feel with the throttle and braking also with my Slash the Max 10 SCT combo will run more efficient than the stock VXL-3s system so it'll run cooler. Also with my XO-1 if you want to run either an aftermarket transmitter\receiver combo or run an aftermarket ESC you have to change them both since the stock TQi will only properly work with the stock esc since i was never a big fan of the tqi i always prefer a Spektrum or Futaba radio and receiver combo. Also with my XO-1 since it now runs the Castle MMX8s it can also potentially run on 8s if you want but i don't plan to since the XO-1's driveline was never designed with 8s power in mind. I almost for to mention i run a Spektrum iXSR+ with all of my cars with Spektrum receivers i also have a Spektrum DX6C on standby as well.

I suppose I’m too lazy to mess with swapping the electronics. Do you turn around and sell the stock systems and if you do do you get your money back out of them?

I don't get much for reselling the stock systems but you do get a bit towards the new systems. But the way i see it, It's always just an option to swap them out but for me on some vehicles it's a must do. I know a few people i watch on YouTube who either have either really bad luck with stock Traxxas electronics or they chose to swap them straight out of the box. One guy i watch bought his sledge and immediately swapped out the stock servo, esc and motor but he kind of has super high standards and i guess over the years i've grown to have similar high standards. Usually i don't bother with the Arrma's and other Horizon brand since they already come with adequate electronics stock. Also most of the Spektrum esc's are Hobbywing rebrands or loosely based off Hobbywing's systems like the Firma 160 is essentially a Max 6 v3 G1. But that's my take on it everybody has different experiences.

I got it and thanks for the explanations. I built a nitro race buggy from an expensive roller over a decade ago. It turned out great and everything but it just didn’t do it for me because well…I don’t race. So I ended up selling it and made a small amount of money on it. These days I’m just an rtr peasant.
