Who was wrenching today??? What did you do??

Looks nice and clean.
The previous owner sprayed everything with WD40 I think... it was an oily mess. I wiped it all down with DA/paper towels when I got it, well, most of it. I drive at a grass bmx track 99% of the time, so not a lot of dirt running. Just when the grass/ground gets dry, which it often does.

Tomorrow, wrenching on the mini b. Putting on replacement rear shocks. I am also doing a little hack. I will make a small hole in the spring cup, and zip tie it to the spring so it doesn't come off and loose it on a big black carpet track.

For the B74.1. I am cutting foams, and putting them in the tires. Local racer has a pair of wheels for me so I will use those to mount tires on too. I got the JCon pin swags rear. Got the Pin Swag fronts, and with the schumacher cactus rears, it was making it all over the place. They also said its best to run the same tire and not mix them up. I will also see if any other racers use fuzz bites rears, see if I can test them with the fuzz bites fronts that I have. And I will see which one I like better. I will also do some diff oil changes. Going to 1M in the center, 30K in the rear. sticking with 15K outfront. Might change to 10K if needed during racing. Also, that local racer is also bringing his motor tunealyzer so I will use my motor on that and adjust timing accordingly.

Racing tomorrow night. Need some practice as new tires, new layout, new radio.

Bashed the slash and rusty this weekend, and tonight for a bit. Didn't break anything so that being said, no wrenching on them.

Another thing Ill do to the B74 is I am going to dial down the brakes via ESC, and Radio. Test drove locals cars, they have their brake strength or sensitivity pretty low. Even drag brake so I will dial those down. See how I like it, with the new tires.

Todays super sweaty non RC project was making a glovebox door for the Dodge power wagon brush truck I’ve been working on. I needed a place to mount the controls for the emergency lights and siren and I was not willing to cut a hole in the original sheet metal. The factory lid will get stowed away with the other spare & original parts from the truck.

I started by making a Jig from 1/2” plywood then rough cut the aluminum sheet on the band saw. Then used some double sided masking tape to stick the aluminum to the jig. Drilled a sizable hole in the center and set up my router table with a 1/2” trim bit. Worked almost as good as my old milling machine but the finish suffered a bit because hand feeding isn’t as consistent as the stepper motors in a CNC. That being said I’m very happy with the result.

The truck if you haven’t seen it:

Just need to measure for the mounting holes tomorrow and poke some more holes in it. Fortunately the garage the truck is in is air conditioned! The ambient temperature in the barn all my tools are in was 106° today 🥵

Wrenched on the Mini B from 10AM to like 3PM. Left for racing for the track at 4:30. New rear shocks, I think I fixed the spring cup issue. We got some guys 4D printing some spring cups that actually fix the problem (longer cups so the spring can stay in and on).

4D? What is 4D. Lol. 3D i meant. 🤪 Yea you can tell I'm tired. Lol.

Today while at the track. Me and Josh got my motor running perfectly with his hobbywing tunalyzer. He also glued up a set of wheels n tires for me. Also he let me used some of his tires to play around. Will talk about more of tonights racing tomorrow. Off to bed.

I like the color. Looks nice. Sweet looking so far. 🤓
Shooting for a 2000 cherokee freedo.. the freedom model is rare, and yellow is the rarest color. I was on the fence but I'm digging it.

I do have black accessories, black plastidip on the fenders, and debating on black lower door trim to break it up.

I worked on this body. Gave it a run, lost a connection to the ESC. Will fix it tomorrow. After I take the dogs to the groomer. Kinda stinks. No biggie.
Awesome rig Mike.
I like painting cars.

Last day of summer wrenching. Today rebuilding buggy shocks and diffs, and cleaning up the car from 2 weeks ago at Beach RC.
Last night I put Velcro on for the body as the body post broke. Velcro should be able to keep the body in place. I also cut out a part of the body as the servo saver was rubbing on it.

Also today, I'll clean up the slash, rebuild the slash shocks, and maybe fix that leaky shock too.
Gotta order parts so I can race in 2 weeks.

Some pretty dirty oil. Haven't rebuilt them for maybe 2 months if running? All of the black stuff is the carpet strings which were around the shock shafts.

Made me an old, not too easy to cross bridge for my upcoming track for 10-24 scale.
It will look better when it is a couple of feet off of the trails below.

I was wrenching on my daily driver… Met some friends at the local parking lot for a road course session, had a great time. We packed up and we’re heading to the local pool for a dip and to cool off but my XJ had different plans. After 25 years the starter gave up. No warning. No slow starts to make you think a failure was imminent. After a little diagnosis on the super hot pavement I decided it was time to enlist AAA. Had to switch to the “backup” Jeep but it’ll be back in service by the weekend.

And the “backup” Jeep.

Ahh the joys of dailying a vehicle eligible for historic plates…
