If the technology was in the hands of the car owners, I would be the FIRST guy pumping its awesomeness!
Computer controls have absolutely changed that auto industry, mostly for the better.
Follow this...
My 06 Envoy had 3.42 ratio front and rear diffs.
I am in process of changing them out for a set of 4.11's and am installing taller tires.
This job is combined with a few others and I'm planning a few weeks of work IF things go well.
HERE us my issue with computers...
AFTER I finish building my hot rod truck, I'm not done.
NOW I have to go into my computer and program it to accept the new changes.
If GM didn't opt to program MY new options on MY truck, I CAN'T make it work!
There is no computer friendly option for 4.88 and 44" tires.
My 85 Blazer had a Mickey Mouse computer that made my truck run worse! It was replaced by a jumper wire. Not kidding.
The cars now COULD be AMAZING but for some reason there is this delusion thst because I spend $75k on my space aged spyware car, I have "opted in" to "allowing" GM to track and record my travels, Ford actually just pattened a system to record your travel plans and convos in the car so it could "make suggestions" basedon your destination to "enhance your vehicular enjoyment" or similar nonsense.
Your computer car records how you drive and where you park. If your insurance company doesn't like the data, YOUR new spyware car just COST you money!
The fact that yoy can no longer repair your own car, the 85 cameras, the fact that your $10 headlight now costs well over $1k because of the sensors for the computer.
Heres THE biggest one tho.
After you buy your car, it will receive regular updates until a set date. After which your car will become obsolete and hazzardous waste that YOU have to dispose of.
BMW opt to put the same strut in (3 seriers?) cars. ALL the same.
If you want your new BMW to have HP suspension, ypu have to subsscribe to it and BMW will turn it on for you.
Imagine what happens to your investment when you try to selk it and your car returns to "default" for the next owner.
Computers COULD be GREAT but they are being used to manipulate and control instead.
I'll drive my sh*tbox Focus into the ground before I buy a new car. Post computer, pre spyware.
I have a couple other oldies that should keep me spyware free until they outlaw gasoline.
