Ugly Stik (Orange)

Ugly Stick kit with a 41.75" Wing Span

General RC Information

This is one of my Ugly Stiks. I ended up buying three of these kits, because they were so cheap and very easy to build. I planned on making a blue one and a green one. Instead of the cross, I was going to use a clover leaf. I ended up scrapping that idea when I cut out a clover leaf for my Gentle Lady glider. I still have the other two in their boxes as I never got around to build them. This one was fun, but ended up being a handful for me to fly, because I'm not that experienced. I was able to take off and land this without any problems, but it is a smallish plane and flew very fast (for me), so my nerves were shot when I finally got it down. If I ever end up building the other kits, I will add more dihedral to the wing to tame it down a bit and will probably omit the ailerons. They are very small on the Orange Stik, but super snappy. I like low and slow, so I only flew this one once.

The kit did not have the traditional rounded vertical stabilizer, so I made my own tail. I also changed out the landing gear, because the wire gear that came with the kit was awful. I drew the crosses in paint and then traced them onto black MonoKote and cut them out and ironed them on. I also changed the wing mount, so I didn't have to use rubber bands.

The picture of the red plane is how it was supposed to be built.

Enjoy!
