Hello all,

So I picked this up the other day. It was a closet queen and has never been run the only thing is it has all onboard electronics but no transmitter. I found someone that has the original transmitter it came with but it’s working on being 20 years old. Should I just buy a new transmitter and receiver or stick with the stock one?

Thank you

I would just buy a whole new Rx/tx system/combo. Modern systems even budget ones are priced good and gives you more settings to adjust/mess around with. More range, higher/faster response times too. Flysky GT5 would be my recommendation in the sub 100 dollar range. Flysky NB4 if you want a high tiered radio for half the price of the others. Futaba if you wanna buy for the name/history.

Thanks for the response. I was looking at this one Radiolink RC6GS V3. Because it has features similar to the stock on. It has Telemetry and so did the stock model.

I ran radiolink stuff in the past. Can't really recommend it alot. Especially on a nitro. You do not want a signal drop/runaway. Cause I had multiple ones of those when I had my 4gs and 8x. (@CJSRCLIFE had the same) I would still look into flysky for the same price range and has that extra step of reliability/dependability.

Okay I’ll check it out thanks for the advice

Yeah, If i wasn't already so deep in Spektrum i would definitely give Flysky a chance who knows i might sell my Futaba 4PM someday and get an NB4+ to go along side my new iXSR+. For a similar price to one of the lower end Radiolinks i would look at the FS-GT5 from Flysky it's fairly inexpensive and fairly reliable one of my favorite YT channels Exocaged RC uses a GT5.

Alright I’ll check it out. I’m not ready to commit to a 300-500 dollar set up so the GT-5 sounds right up my alley. And the whole telemetry thing not sure I would really need it for what I’m going to be doing.

You don't have to do what i have, I only chose Spektrum and the iXSR+ since it was what i wanted out of a radio i also like Spektrum's tech better anyone else's and i can afford it but that's just me. But yeah you can get away with a Flysky FS-GT5 the receivers for it are cheap and plentiful on Amazon and from what i hear it's good radio certainly better than Radiolink's flawed systems.

Yeah maybe down the road if I keep buying new cars I’ll drop more money into a transmitter of higher quality but for now trying to just dip my toes in the water.

Yeah I think it is the right way to go. Is the one he recommended suitable for nitro?
If you are looking for a good budget TX/RX then I would go with a Flysky FS-GT3B
I have three of these and they work great.

Thanks for the information. I looked at it but wasn’t sure if it was suitable for nitro. Plus kinda thought the telemetry thing would have been a cool thing to have but after thing about it don’t think I really need it.

It doesn't matter if it's nitro or not. You will get the same range regardless.
Nitro only needs 2 channels anyway.
This transmitter has good range.

I have both of the FlySky models mentioned above (GT3B and GT5), they have both been good radios for my uses.

The GT5 offers more channels, and a larger model memory, but the GT3B is just as good in terms of range and still offers three channels.

Id avoid radiolink on this especially. I used the RC4gs with the R7F-something or other receiver (the one with telemetry) with my nitro and gas 1/5 and it was glitchy after some time. The engine powered rc's are the most critical of all to NOT lose signal. You will want a receiver that can tell you the car's battery voltage. It's my preference and it's just nice to have. I'm sure some people don't use it.
I use Radiomaster with the same brand receivers or, flysky receivers. My other radiolink receivers in my rock crawlers and other cars NEVER had signal issues (r6f receiver).
My vote for a starter radio would have to be the flysky stuff.

Yeah think I’m going to go with the FS-GT5 that someone on here recommended. Seems fair price and should do what I need it to do.
