A stock one isn't as much fun, but back in the day, I doubled up the 3 stage resistor, with the stock mechanical speed controller, and ran 2 packs to it. I don't know much about all this new stuff. I built my Clod, and fixed a number of other's, in the '90s...the heck with what's best. buy what's the most fun. Tamiya Super Clodbuster

the Super Clodbuster comes with an ESC that I'm told can handle sport tuned motors (?). i still have the stock silver cans in mine. on a 2s lipo its actually pretty fast, in a scale Clodbuster sorda way. very punchy, on a high traction surface it'll wheelie. the only thing that made the truck not fun stock was the steering. i don't think they make a 1/10 servo strong enough to steer that thing. once i went to axle mounts it was all good. and iv added a few aftermarket parts sense.
