I bought a 4100mah 11.1v battery for my vxl. Wow. Speed went from 37mph to 54mph with bad rear tires. Installed new treads can't wait to see speed. Kinda wet here keep sliding. Off tomorra gona be cold but dry ill post speed.

Yeah 2s is dumb. 3s is the only way to go on vxl. Just wait till you get into 1/8 buggy's on 6s!

Gearing is 86t 48p/28pinion. Is this ok. Dont seem to get to hot but its cold. What temps are bad

I try to use 170 as the max.

Most people will say dont go above 160-180F so 170F seems like a good middle ground. If you want to get into speed a bit more try a Castle 3800kv 4 pole motor. you will be able to gear it a lil taller than a 2 pole Velineon and get even more speed. IDK if the VXL ESC is up to that task or not though. I typically use a sidewinder or something a lil beefier when running that motor on 3S with tall gearing.

.other than gearing a little. Thats all i can get out of that motor and esc

That will have a lot of torque and ok top speed but not great. Id probably start out with a 22-25T pinion on an VXL and watch temps and tune from there. On a castle 3800kv Id say start with 25-28T and tune from there.

For more top speed do i want more teeth or less teeth on the pinoin? Gearing is kinda new to me.
I'm gonna take a few speed runs today ill get back with results.
Just got proline dirt works 2.2" all terrain rear tires. I taped the inside to help
With balloning. Will the smaller rims make a difference in performance compared to the stock rims?

More teeth on the pinion or less teeth on the spur will get you more top speed but also higher temps on your motor and esc. The bigger the rims/tires the higher your rollout is which means more top speed. Again though the trade off is more heat in your motor and esc.

Tires are the same diameter the hole is smaller. I've been watching temps so far ok. I ran with the new tires and i think they slowed me down. I hit 49mph. I was running dirt hawgs with a hole in one tire and hit 53-54 depending on the app. I took 3 runs and called it a day. That lets me find out what i need to do next. New motor and esc out for now. Thanks

Your rollouot is based on the diameter of the tire...Wheel size does not matter except that generally speaking the tires on a 2.8 rim will be bigger than those on a 2.2 rim at least when comparing the same type of tire.

28/83 is stock gearing for that truck, so your 28/86 is actually a bit lower gearing, more tq and less top speed, than stock. With the pack you're using, I'd be plenty happy with those speeds.

Yeah thats true I forgot the stock spur gear for the Rusty is an 83T. I've been using a 76T for so long that it slipped my mind. The pinion suggestion i gave you earlier were based of of using a 76T spur gear.

Thanks. I get it now. Told lhs i wanted speed. He sold me 86/28. I got this car free with little rear to it. It came with a 86/25. So if i get the stock 83 spur and keep the 28pinion ill gain speed? Think thats right. Hmmmm. I had it backwards.

So i got the 76/31 combo.. Nice!!! I dont get long runtime 15-20min with the 3s 4100, but i did hit 52.4.
I think i could have got a little more. The front is sensitive at those speeds. How can i keep the front from comming up so easy.other than a gentle finger. Ha. I swore i saw the whole thing come up for about 1/2 a sec. Mabye not.

Well theres various ways of doing it. You can adjust you punch control settings in your ESC or if it really becomes a problem you can add weight to the front of the kit. I front downforce wing will help keep the front end down at higher speeds.
