Traxxas the way to go?

Cool beans then. Grab you a couple kits and a soldering iron then and lets get to work 😉🤣

Ok. Now that all that is squared away...

The Rustler is not one I've ever owned. But they kinda look like an electric version of the Jato nitro trucks. I do have one of those, and it is only good for straight lines, and slow turns. If not for the screaming nitro engine on it, it would get very boring. But as I said, I've never owned a Rustler, and it being 4wd would be a different animal.

I would suggest you look at a short course truck if you want something to rip around a field with. Traxxas has the Slash. Losi has the Tenacity TT, and Arrma has the Mojave, just for examples. Great all around bashers.
Funny you mention the Jato. I love the look of that thing. But I have no interest in Nitro. So the brushless Rustler 4x4 Ult seems right up my alley.

How are Losi and Associated RTR’s?

Could always convert it to an e-Jato. 🤔🤔🫡

haven’t had a chance to read everyone’s input yet, but Traxxas makes great cars though they’re a 💩 company morally. You can be confident that you’re getting what you pay for with a Traxxas.

That being said, I personally prefer Arrma. The vehicles are IMO a lot nicer and easier to work on. But once you get into the 6s line, a lot of parts become metal and are more expensive to replace.

I would prefer the Arrma counterpart to traxxas any day. I just feel like the 6s line is more high end. also prefer the tunability of the arrmas.

6s Arrma is going to be closer to what you would find professional racers driving around the track. Traxxas is generally going to be more durable and cheaper to repair.

Disclaimer: I’ve only owned a few 2s and 3s Traxxas vehicles and some of their nitros. Never owned any Traxxas 4,6, or 8s vehicles. I’ve owned many different arrmas from the boost series to 8s and loved every one of them.

I like the Rustler 4x4 Ultimate
I have the slash ultimate, if the rustler is anything close you will absolutely love it.

And welcome to the forum brother! Excited to see what you choose!

Thanks , man. Doing all the research is a big part of the fun for me. I like to compare and contrast. This all started when my son said he wanted an RC truck for his bday. So after looking online for a bit , I decided that I wanted to get one too. So now we’re both getting hooked.

If it’s for a young lad then id definitely go
With a traxxas. Things gonna see a lot of trees and walls at full speed, definitely want cheaper to repair 😂

No matter what you decide on, you are going to have a blast. It's a great hobby to share with your son. I also will vouch for Arrma.

Lots of good choices out there, remember nothing says you can't have more than one brand in your collection. I have lots of different brands and they are all fun, don't get caught up in the this brand is better than that brand. Once you get into hobby grade they are pretty much all fun.

How are Losi and Associated RTR’s?
My first 1/10 (2nd RC after the scx24) was the losi 22s, the sct. It is still a ton of fun but has a finicky slipper clutch sometimes. They can be found on eBay, but since arrma just released the Fury I would go that route. Losi and team associated like to discontinue cars and the parts to repair them.

Ok so Losi and Associated may not be the best choice for me right now. Are they more geared toward racing? Traxxas and Arrma look like they’re the way to go.

Any recommendations on best bang for the buck with batteries and chargers? I know someone mentioned a charger in a previous post. I’ll have to go back and look.

And Tekno trucks are only available in kit form , correct?

Best bang for the buck. gensacearespammers Imars D300. Less than $120. It's a dual battery charger. If you want to run whatever battery you wish, just get adapters. Alot of chargers have XT type outputs or come with leads that have them. You can charge whatever battery you wish with it.

If you want a 1/10 scale monster truck, the Traxxas Maxx or the Arrma Kraton 4s. gensacearespammers batteries are good. Ovonic are great, IMO. Zee are ok, pretty good. Some swear by CNHL, but some don't like them.

If you want an absolute crazy, fast, fun stunt monster truck- Arrma Notorious.

I’ll check out that charger today. Right now , I’m favoring the Maxx for my son and Rustler 4x4 Ultimate for myself. Would the Maxx need any immediate upgrades?

If your 1st reaction is the Maxx & Rustler & your heart is on it, then you should get them. Probably the servo. But, word of advice- Run it till something needs replacing. Just have fun. Don't worry about upgrades too soon. I had to be reminded of this on my latest RC purchase. 😆 RCT is a great group of folks man. 👍

Will do 👍 What was your last RC purchase?

Team Associated Element Enduro Ecto 1/10 crawler truck. But I have over a dozen RCs. Mostly Arrma. Bashers & on road. My 1/10 Redcat Blackout XTE is a blast too.
If I were you, get the Traxxas batteries & charger that are recommended for those models like on the Traxxas website. Nothing wrong with that.

The only reason I prefer the Hota D6 Pro over that D300 is the balance current. The D300 has a 1.2A balance circuit, where the Hota has a 1.6A balance circuit. The more balance current, the faster the charger will finish charging your batteries.

I'll check that out. Hota D6 Pro. Looks like there are more than one D6 Pro charger.

There is a D6, and a D6 Pro. The pro version has a built-in power supply, so it will plug into AC. The D6 requires an external PSU to power it, up to 30V.

The other options are just case colors. They used to only be available in grey, but now you can get them in a few different colors. But all the specs are the same.

That Joshua Bardwell dude is very well known in the FPV drone scene, and even though the D6 Pro is an older charger now, he still recommends it as the best out there in its price range. And if you compare the specs to every other charger out there like it, it is easy to see why. That balance current is not bested by any other charger around $100, at least that I have seen.

That video is worth a watch if you want to understance how balance charging works. And check out some of his other charging and lipo vids as well. Pretty sharp guy when it comes to electronics.

I should prob buy a premium membership on here. I have a hunch I’m gonna be on a lot.

And there’s a local hobby store nearby that I’m gonna take my son to so we can see some trucks in person. But I still plan on buying our stuff online as the hobby shop is much more expensive.

And I think I will go with a Traxxas charger and battery setup. I’ll have to see which ones are recommended. How long do LiPo’s last as far as run time?
