Traxxas the way to go?

I should prob buy a premium membership on here. I have a hunch I’m gonna be on a lot.

And there’s a local hobby store nearby that I’m gonna take my son to so we can see some trucks in person. But I still plan on buying our stuff online as the hobby shop is much more expensive.

And I think I will go with a Traxxas charger and battery setup. I’ll have to see which ones are recommended. How long do LiPo’s last as far as run time?
Lot of variable there. Weight of the rig, mAh of the battery, motor and gearings setup, etc will all vary the run time. Typically, on our 6s Kraton we maybe get 10-15 minutes run time out of two 5200mAh batteries. The higher the mAh the battery is, the longer the run time, technically. But higher mAh batteries typically weigh more, so that cuts into the benefit of higher mAh batteries a little.

I highly recommend not going down the Traxxas battety and charger route. I'm not even sure if the Traxxas chargers allow you to see your lipo battery's internal resistance value, and that is an important feature of a LiPo charger. All LiPo batteries degrade over time. And keeping an eye on your IR's is the only way to really know when you LiPo is at risk of going poof and burning your home down, or melting your RC kit.

The guy tries to stomp the fire out 😅
LiPo's produce their own oxygen. There is no putting that fire out.

Going to the LHS is a good idea & ask questions. My Kraton & Notorious run for 30-33 mins, running pretty hard.

Yeah , we’re gonna go right after lunch today. If I can pry my kid from his iPad. He’s been watching RC vids on YT non-stop all weekend. I think I’ve created a monster.

Cool. My HobbyTown closet to me is closed on Sunday, (some HobbyTowns are open on Sunday) but there is an independent store open on Sundays about an hour from me. I'm in Georgia. Have fun!

Thanks. The hobby shop around here is an independent as well. Opens from 11-6 today I believe. I’m in Massachusetts.

Seeing the Idiot with the Lipo explosion video . Just makes me Go what

No lipo charging bag(a must)
left alone while charging(Never Do this)
On a wooden floor next to furniture...Lets burn my house down.I have a silicon mat my charger and lipo charge box sit on and I never leave it run without being watched...I can unplug things in a microsecond rool mat up get lipo outside if I need to... and I have a fire extigusher within 3 feet of my workbench. But a fire extinguisher will not putout a lipo fire(FYI)...and bucket with sand in it will help contain fire...
and the biggest he was stoping fire out... Dude a lipo battery will turn into a jelly when on fire..so it will squirt all over

Id recommend the HOTA D6 Pro charger, and for Lipos I'd buy either Liperor or Liperor Pro batteries. The Liperior Endurance batteries are junk, though, so don't buy that line.

The Traxxas kits are great, but their proprietary chargers and batteries are overpriced junk that you'll just end up wanting to replace later on down the line, and you'll find that you're entrenched in their junk at that point. I would strongly urge you not to go that route.

So we took a drive to the local hobby shop near here and it was pretty cool. Lots of cars , trucks and buggies. Traxxas , Arrma and Axial were the main brands. I did see a couple Losi’s and Team Assiciated. The Typhoon (or Typhon) looked sweet. The guy said there was a tuned one available too with a bunch of upgrades. And one of the patrons told me that Arrma has really good electronics on their RTR’s.

Then I saw a Traxxas XRT and that thing looked awesome. I mentioned to the guy working there that I was interested in the Maxx and Rustler 4x4 Ultimate and he said those were great choices for me and my young man to get (back) into RC. He was a nice guy. I told him we were just checking things out right now. He was cool and told us to come back anytime with any questions or just talk RC. But that place is significantly more expensive than the online dealers. Overall , it was a fun and worthwhile visit.

A lot of local hobby stores can do price matches against competitors. I try my best to support local. It’s nice needing a part and being able to pick it up that day rather than order it on Amazon and wait 2 days.

But there’s still a lot that I get from Amain and Tower bc LHS doesn’t always stock everything I need

That's awesome man! It's always good to see the RC's in person & mess with them. The Typhon is an awesome buggy. Really a do-all. The XRT is so cool! I've been wanting one for a while! Big big RC.
Yeah , that XRT looks huge in person. The guy said the X-Maxx was even bigger. What?!? How much bigger can it be?

And Tower Hobbies doesn’t carry Traxxas anymore? I’m sure it has something to do with the whole Traxxas policy hate thing.

The shop had some retro RC’s too. Ones I remember from 1987/1988 like the Lunch Box , The Hornet and The Blackfoot. Old school!

Look up primal rc. They got a $1k challenger. They have $4k monster truck the size of a power wheels. 🤣

I think they are basically the same, XRT is LCG & a/t tires, X-Maxx is HCG & m/t tires. I like the XRT better.
I had a Boomerang & Blackfoot back in the day.

The Boomerang I have now is the 2008 re-release. The 86 OG one I had, it had the servo wiper speed control, had to keep moly lube on it.

Seriously? That’s insane. You’d need a football field for something that big.

Back then , I remember the Kyosho Ultima and Associated RC10 were top dogs. And RC Car Action magazine was popular.

Hobbytown in Kennesaw is open 7 days a week...and I've been thankful for that on more than one occasion already. They are staged and ready to take my $$$ lol

Seriously thinking about getting a Typhon tomorrow...I mean, I NEED a buggy in the collection, don't I?

The one in Augusta is too. I stopped in there when I drove through going to the coast. Nice, big store. Way bigger than the Buford one. I've been wanting to hit the one in Kennesaw. I've read it's like the largest HobbyTown in the USA.

It's big, but I don't have anything to compare it too. The employees are all nice and helpful.

If you don't have a Arrma 6s, the Typhon won't disappoint!
