This is why you don't buy Traxxas...

Companies make money from parts.

I just looked in my mini parts bin...... 12 ring and pinions at 12.xx a pop. And I tossed out a bag of another 10 or so.

12 gears at 12.50 is $156 !. I paid I think 50 or 80 for the mini slash, and 80 or 100 for the mini summit.
Now that's unreasonable...

"And I tossed out a bag of another 10 or so."
That's it! You are now out of the club. How dare you throw RC parts away! You should be ashamed of yourself! 😜

I didn't even know there was a mini Slash. Now I want one! Are they any good?

Until you get to the ring and pinion. 🤣
I think they are good. A big block will make her hop like a bunny.

I tossed bad gears out to mske room for new ones. 🤔

I'm building my slash vxl as s chevy and the summit vxl will be a ford, both lengthend touring trucks.
I wish they’d bring back the 1/16 VXL Slash.

Slash is brushed, summit comes vxl.

I have to say, i am the exact opposite with my stuff. My Slash (2 and 4WD) and Bandit seem to be way more durable than either of my Arrma trucks (Granite and Senton/Typhon hybrid). I have videos of me bashing a 2WD slash hard at a concrete skate park, and only broke a front hub on a bad landing in 30 degree F weather, and, so far, i havent broken anything on my 4WD slash, or the Bandit, and all of my Traxxas stuff was bought used. Everytime i take out one of the Arrma's, something breaks, no matter the temp, and they were both bought new (the hybrid i then bought a bunch of parts front Jenny's, and built it how i wanted it, because my first hybrid build got destroyed). I have replaced lower arms more times than i can count, driveshafts at least 6 times, spur, rear diff on the Senton 3 times, twice on the Granite, shocks (the front ones on the Senton bent yet again the other day), and countless body mounts. I used to not be a fan of Traxxas stuff, because i would see them break all the time, so, maybe i have just gotten lucky with the ones i have, because, if you have seen any of my videos, I'm not easy on anything i own RC wise.

I might have to grab some mini Traxxas. How is the Summit?
I put them both through hell. Very decent trucks with great suspension travel. A big block will make ger squat.

On my summit, I put traxxas 2.2s and proline dirt hawgs, the foot print is under a Stampede, but I could go most places my 2wd Stampede could go. It has heavy duty shafts compared to the other 1/16, but you will pay out the ass for replacements. Even Ebay chop shops, $30 for all is the cheapest I found.

You can flip 2 of the three gears in the tranny. You can go from a torque setting to a speed setting by swapping gears, and still have the spur and pinion to play with. At one point my summit was a 1.9 scale truck with lockers.

The pic below with the 1.9s is her squating.

I have an older T-Maxx and a new Bandit VXL, that I beat the crap out of, and they constantly surprise me on how much abuse they can withstand.

I personally don't see why Traxxas gets all this hate.

I've had too many bad experiences with Traxxas, my Slash 2wd would break almost every run from something very minor. Also, they get a lot of hate from their business practices. So far, my Nitro Rustler has been more durable than my Slash 2wd and I hope it stays that way.

I've been known to bash Traxxas a little in my threads, but only because of how often I break these money pits trying to pass for "hobby grade" rc cars.
Today was no exception. Took my Rustler to the new indoor carpet track the club I frequent opened up today for practice runs.. I didn't even get through one complete battery pack and it broke not once, but twice. First casualty was a rear shock tower that literally split in half. A buddy had a spare so I tossed that on and kept running. Not 4 laps later... the rear bulkhead where the hinge pin attaches split wide open. This is a small indoor track with some pretty small jumps. Not bashing this thing or launching it 30 ft like Kev Talbot does... it was also pretty warm in there so cold wasn't a factor in making the plastic brittle. I guess I just don't consider a product quality when you have to immediately replace over 3/4 of the parts with RPM or something stronger so this crap doesn't frequently happen.
So far I've had to replace both front steering knuckles, rear axle carriers, servo gears, a complete servo, now a rear shock tower (might as well do both), a gear cover where the plastic split from barely over-tightening, and now a transmission case. Also going to replace the a-arms with rpm as those are bound to go on me as well... I've only had the car since August and haven't run it that often. Not to mention the parts I've had to replace on my Stampede as well which I'm now trying to sell just to get rid of the thing.

EDIT: Make that 3 times in one day. Apparently I also bent the crap out of the cheap shafts on the rear shock as well that day on the Rustler. (Not even on the side that the hinge pin mount broke)

TL;DR Traxxas sucks, do not buy. Don't be a sucker like I was and believe the fanboys who swear by this crap.

It may be the way you drive?

I just got back into the hobby after 10ish years (electric was just starting to get big) bought myself a Revo 2.0 when that released, always wanted one new upgrades sounded nice. drove it out front once. Some idiot ran me over (I drve a Harley) revo sat for couple years while recovering(lots and lots of surgeries), few months ago my buddy's all got rigs to go out with me. As soon as I took off and hit the first idk 1 1/2-2 foot jump both pushrods tore out. I have a bin of parts grabbed some rpm endlinks drove off everything was good hit the jump again this time the rear pushrods tore out replaced again, drove around the track started hearing a noise turned out the servo stripped took that out decided just just run the single, drove around the other servo just stopped took a took and can smell it burnt so I took the gears out the burnt one put it in the one that stripped ran it again. The Damm push rod ripped out again. At that point I was sick and tired of it I grabbed my old Team Associated 8.0 and 10+ year old gas started it up ran it, beat the hell out of it untill the only Rx pack I had died. I spent half the day wrenching on the revo. Only fun I had was the old trusy 8.0 haven't even repaired the revo the thought of how much I might spend freaks me out when I start weighing the options of just getting a different truck.

Oh and sorry if Grammer or something is messy since accident I get "confused"

Seems to be a lot of traxxas hate in here. If they were as bad as you all claim, I doubt they would still be in business. Not saying they are perfect or the best brand, but they are pretty darn good. The Slash and Xmaxx are two of the toughest RC's I've ever owned.

I've never known any brand of RC that didn't break. They all do. I've had about the same failure rates from arrma and Losi as Traxxas.

I think the reason you see so many people complaining of them breaking is due to the volume of their products out there. It's one of the most popular brands for entry level guys who are just starting out in this hobby. No offense to anyone, but most entry level guys are not the best drivers. They crash, it breaks, and they blame the car. In reality, any car you crash will break. If you do your part, they usually hold up pretty well.

I know this is an old thread and I'm not trying to defend traxxas....but I've had 4 traxxas RC cars and never had an issue. I've liked all of them and only got rid of some due to me needing money for bills and such, I have a 2wd and 4x4 stampede, and a rally, and I have nothing but tons of fun with all 3. Maybe I'm in the minority, but the only time I've ever really broke anything was when I overshot a jump or lost traction and slammed full into a tree, even then I only broke an A arm lol.

Agree, I own many brands now including Traxxas and for the RTR market they are a solid choice. Good support, parts easy to get and cheap, and designs mostly solid. If you can get around some proprietary stuff (I have) then they are easy to modify too. I also like that they are mostly NOT made in China.

Does anyone here know what the minimum speed of the traxxas summit 1/16 is? I can't find it anywhere.
That would be zero ;)

Welcome to the forum!

I'm assuming you mean the maximum speed? That would be 25MPH out of the box or 40MPH with two of the stock NiMH packs ran in series according to Traxxas website. That being said the ESC is only capable of 3S and two NiMH packs ran in series would be like running a 4S lipo so I'm a little confused by their statement.

The guy who opened the thread claims that he broke rustler 3 times at the track. 5 years ago I use to go with friends to windy City rc before they closed unfortunately. They were running onroad primarily but they also had small off-road carpet truck. We use to go every week and we all run Traxxas with exception to one wl toys. We never broke anything, except wl toys.

I was running rustler that I bought of eBay as a roller for 70$ and assembled from parts I had laying around, 1/8 scale buggy wheels, stampede body and 13.5 motor.

This is Traxxas hoss at the local scatepark. I don't do bigger jumps then this but never broke it.

I am not saying they are unbreakable, a broke a bunch of parts before. But I think some people expept way to much.
