Alright so after looking at some videos of the 3, I think i will definitely be going with the mini komodo unity. The price is right, its compact, and has Bluetooth tuning.

The GoupRC does perform really well, and comes with a metal trans, but the motor and trans sits pretty high. also it is a giant wiring mess.

The venom + lizard pro combo is really nice and offers a lot of power. But ultimately, I like how the unity keeps the chassis clean.

With the unity, will a trans swap/upgrade be necessary?

I'm almost certain it will smoke on the next run. What furitek system do you recommend?

There's a brushless combo with metal trans on Aliexpress for $36. Its got great reviews on reddit but the motor can looks a little small to me. Don't know much about these tiny brushless systems

@WickedFog I see your reaction, and I raise you this video. IMO thats crazy performance for $36.

Fair warning- plastic gears in trans really dont like brushless. 🤪

Seems like this could turn into a dangerous drinking game! 🤔😲🤣

The truck is shaping up nicely! 👍
I may opt for some seltzer water cans to help finish up 😅

I'm sorry to say, 10 years ago, I'd have that done by now. 🤔 🙋‍♂️
Okay, I may have lied. Definitely a 48-hour binge drinking project. :thumbs-up:

I'm using seltzer waters now but the beers go down so much quicker. More fun too lol

Stock esc crapped its pants just crawling around the house. So its already time for an electronics upgrade.

Theres one dilemma holding me back on this project:

How much money do i really want to put into a micro crawler?

Answer:

Not too much, id rather put that money towards a 1/10 crawler

Originally i was going to go with a carbon lcg comp chassis, but with wanting to keep cost low, I'm going with the Goup esc/motor/metal trans combo which comes in at $32.76 compared to a furitek setup w/ metal trans around $130/140

The goup combo performs well, its just a little top heavy and takes up some chassis space where a body would go. But i think given that I've added 10mm of width to each axle, -4.5mm offset wheels, and brass rings to the beadlocks, that ill take the hit on the overhead weight over the extra $100 for high end electronics.

With as high as the goup trans and motor sit, i figure the injora rock buggy/chassis should have ample space to house it with the lexan seat insert removed. (I also absolutely hate painting and fitting bodies so theres another plus 😅) i also really like rock buggy crawlers, and think this would be a good fit for when this eventually gets 4ws

Given that these parts are on order, i went ahead and tore down the chassis and installed what has arrived. High clearance metal links, 48mm double stroke shocks, brass diff cover on the front.

Also, given that receivers for my NB4+ are about $35 each, I picked up an FS-GT3B for $26. I have like 10 receivers for this thing that I bought thinking they would work with the NB4. This will be a great cheaper option for my non racing rigs and I've been meaning to get one for a while. Should be able to do 4ws with it also, but I have the nb4 if not.

So on these aftermarket links, are you guys running the O-ring retaining rings? They seem to be pretty limiting.

Id seen that Cape Crawlers eliminates the inner ring on his shocks to decrease binding. Wondering if the same thing would apply to the links?
