It’s been a couple years since I’ve crawled, but in my continued effort to keep my RC hobby alive during the winter, I’ll be getting back into it!

This is serving as a test run, to see if I would enjoy getting back into 1/10 scale crawling. My plan for this build (I’m not sure what it’s called in the crawler world) is a full blown outlaw crawler. I’d like to get this thing as absolutely capable as possible. And with the knowledge here on the forum I’m sure that will be a breeze. Just try not to give me all the answers 😅 I’d still like to maintain a learning curve here.

Went out and recorded some footage today so see how this thing does stock, first YouTube video is in the works with a lot of editing to be done yet.

After running it today, I’ve gotten rather excited for this little build.

Looks awesome!
There are tons of upgrades to go around, and you are starting with a super-capable, modable base. A good start is a nice set of wheels and a 30kg+ servo so you can grow into it. Also, a super-overlooked mod, in my opinion, is a small waterproof camera that can connect to your phone for tough-to-read features. Hope the project goes awesome!

PS,
I love that cave in the pic, where is it? I'm going to Missouri soon and may bring an RC

Dang now there's a thought lol

That Pic is at cliff cave park in oakville, missouri (my hometown.) There's a creek with about 1/8-1/4 mile of some incredible crawl spots. But there is an actual cave (closed off to the public) and tons of small entrances and sinkholes that connect to the main cave. Also like a 10 miles of trail system for an overland style crawl experience.

Here's a little video of some of the spots by another local

If you make it out be sure to hit me up! Id love to join

I'll explore if I end up in the area!

I see you caved into the crawler gods. 😝🤪
So first question, what do you guys actually call an all out unlimited build in the crawler world? Shows you how much I know 🤪
Mall crawler? 😆🤔

In lots of competitions, the highest class is an Outlaw (which is stage 3). Many (including me) simply call it a "Comp Rig".

Also, don't worry about not knowing much, everyone starts somewhere, and tbh sometimes the learning can be the most fun part of a build. (👉゚ヮ゚)👉

My dad has one with the messed up tranny. I call it the notchness monster. 😝🤪Really wish it was manual.
Its a gm, they all have messed up trannies 🤣😅

One thing I will say about mods... don't get crazy with these little guys. Get you some weight down low, and you want to try to get 60% or so of the total weight on the front axle. But that will vary with ride height, center of gravity, etc. Good tires will make a big improvement. You don't need heavy brass or aluminum wheels. RC4WD stamped steelies, some brass hex extensions around 5mm or less, and brass diff covers and steering knuckles, and she'll be plenty heavy for now.

This will get you some ideas.

So I actually just ordered some 1" injoras with the brass rings, like -4.75 offset. Also got brass knuckles for the front and a brass diff cover for the rear. 56mm injora tires (stocks on this thing are ~52mm) so might need to do a little body trimming.

Thinking either portals or a body will be next. Probably portals
