The Ol' Maxx has changed a lot!

That's quite a substantial transformation. Nice work man. :)

what springs and wt shock oil did you use cornholio? i came across a maxx rolling chassis and the suspension being shot seems to be only issue... has more body roll than a brick on wheels

60 wt oil and those are dual rate springs. I had no idea how weak the stock red springs were until I switched them. Rolex is right, I think the front tires are backwards!

That's a good shock/spring and oil combo and yes, the stock red springs are crap. Even the springs included with the Big Bore shocks are crap.
If you find you're blowing off the shock caps frequently, maybe look into BB shocks down the road.

I think that'll be the next purchase. I've already bent 2 shafts and I wasn't even driving it that hard.

After a few minutes of tuning, the bucking has stopped at idle but I can't go any lower or it stalls and the spur and clutch bell are still hauling ass. The body is pretty useless, I'll probably just get a stock one off of fleabay. Will any body fit as long as its not for the 3.3? After running a full tank, the tune is all over the place so I'm thinking the piston/sleeve is just worn out. Overall I'm pretty happy considering it was free, so if I can score and engine and body..i'll have a little over $200 in it..the tires are kinda fugly though!

Wow looking super nice. Your son is gonna have a blast with that. I agree with Rolex regarding the engine, tear it down, clean the internals, seal it, then see where your at.

Lol should have read further. Good on ya for keeping the kit for yourself so much fun. How old is your son? My 3 year old hates the sound of the nitro motor but he loves electric.

Its 50 degrees outside today so i took the Maxx out to run a 12th and 13th tank, it's running pretty smooth when it gets up to temperature. The 3.3 arms make it a little more stable when turning. I put some big bores on yesterday with the new springs, they seem to work pretty well.. Would there be any advantages to changing it over to the 3.3 chassis? I've got it tuned fairly well so the bucking isn't "too" bad, but would I need to change the tranny as well?

the only good thing about the lwb conversion is it makes the truck a bit more stable over jumps ,I did it to my first maxx and while I did manage to keep it planted it wouldn't exactly wheelie on command. the swb maxx can be a load of fun but also tend to be a lil less stable at high speed compared to the lwb.
you could get away with your tranny but you would need to make a centre rear shaft , you can use a 2.5 driveshaft and cut it down.
