I’ve seen you cry about Stone Age 1/10 cost, so you don’t even wanna be in this thread bro… It’s 1/8 nitro, it’s Kyosho, and it’s their Prototype.. All signs pointing to “not in your wallet”.

Everyone always thinks Xray is the most expensive brand in 1/8… Not true.. Kyosho, and Mayako absolutely have that spot locked up, and have for a hot minute now.. Theres more to it than comparing kit price to kit price. I DO still like them both though.. -Not enough to move from my Tekno’s, but I do like em..

yeah, Scrooge McDuck calls me cheap. but iv always wanted an 1/8 nitro buggy (or truggy back when those looked cool). but this is Kyosho were dealing with, so I'm sure there will be a sub $700 RTR version at some point. that you might be able to talk me into. pretty sure that's what a nitro monster truck costs these days.

You cannot compare ANY RTR to a race grade kit. No-not even K-car stuff.

wasn't, was just saying they might do a cheaper RTR version of it. like they did with the MP10. i don't want it for a race car, i have no intentions of racing 1/8 scale (nowhere to race 1/8 nitro around me anyway)

I haven’t raced in years… I build kits, as nothing else even comes close in the durability/reliability department. -let alone the FUN dept., since I don’t spend all day wrenching over actually driving..

i prefer to build as well. the kits are always equipped better and i enjoy the wrench time. but prices have gotten to out of hand to justify it anymore. if they do an RTR version of this it'll probably come in under $700.
my perspective is the MP10 ready set is $650 and the MP10 kit is $630 but still needs an engine, electrics, and probably tires to finish it off. so it's a $1000 car easy. if i wanted to race competitively i might be able to justify that. but i don't and won't so the cheaper lesser equipped RTR will have to do. the entire friggin RC industry has gone that way. pisses me the hell off.

This is precisely the thinking that has led the industry towards ditching kit RC's over the years, and it's a damn shame. The RTR stuff comes with shoddy everything. So Kyosho only charges a little less for the kit version because the components in their RTR stuff is bottom of the barrel garbage, and they don't overcharge you for it like other manufacturers do. If they were Horizon, they'd be overcharging for the RTR version and RC'ers would be wasting their money on junk. You're way better off buying a kit version over any RTR.

This hobby requires MONEY, and always has.. It’s nothing new, and it’s no more out of control today than it was even 20yrs ago…

last time i held the same truck in my hands RTR and Kit was the RC10GT back in maybe 2001/02.
last 1/8 buggy i got my hands on (as in worked on it, tuned it, drove it) was a Duratrax Axis in 2002/03. (radio gear sucked but engine was good)
last nitro engine i bought was an HPI 3.0 in probably 2017(?) i want to say it was about $100 and now has probably 5 gallons run through it and has never given me a problem.
i remember when guys were building 1/8 race buggies for around $600 and RTR bashers could be had for about $500 (and the servo's sucked) they seemed to be closer in price back then and it made more sense to just buy the kit (change the servo's and you were at kit money). today a decent RTR is sub $700 and a race buggy is twice that. if you're just bashing why spend the money?

I am absolutely out of touch with the latest and greatest. Although the B6.3 isn't too far off.
As far as 1/8th scale goes, my experience could ALL be considered nostalgia.

I think in some cases the 1/10 scale could use a bit of beefing up but I think the B6 suspension is still simple and super smooth.

I hope Kyosho will take their racing fans seriously and offer REAL race options again.

They were IN IT for a long time, win or lose, they were fighting!
RTR has made RC racing more expensive and less accessible, less fun, WAY MORE wasteful...
The interest in profit has led to a sharp decline in 'stock' model improvements.
Why not offer junk electronics when your sister company ONLY sells electronic upgrades that just HAPPEN to be easier to upgrade with... Arrma and Spektrum plug and play universe isn't so great for the non-noob for instance but Spektrum radio upgrades dont require new receivers, servo savers are 23 teeth instead of 25...
Make the forced 'upgrade' seem easy like its a favor.

I have 'upgraded' the heck out of my Mid. I am in the same boat here!

I hope Kyosho sees and fills the gap in the racers market. If OS is junk, fix that too.

Its not hard to offer a race quality kit. It IS hard to convince the manufacturers to offer a race quality out of the box, so it seems.
'Upgrades' made it hard. Cost of Kyosho upgrades vs some of the junk thats out there is totally justified IMO... HOWEVER, you NEED to be shopping the prices and understanding what you are buying.
I'm sure a fair number of us have had a total crap quality 'upgrade' sour the fun before too. Price goes up when you KNOW its gonna fit vs and then dealing with a return to China if it goes bad.
Avid bearings vs Kyosho bearings price$$$... come on kids! You gotta use your heads sometimes!!!

Is a new OS motor junk now?
I dont know honestly. I always thought they were far better than Traxxas but I don't have much to actually compare right now either.

I read up, I follow ppls reviews. I'm also biased, just so you know.

If I had a track here or an 1/8 scale track nearby, I'd be watching these like a hawk to see whats next.
