My Traxxas Mini Max- surprisingly satisfying

That's all well and good. Everybody has their own ideas and wants for their RC. When it comes to minis, I tend to maybe grab a couple upgrades that seem critical and go from there. Then upgrade as I see a need. But that's just me.

Usually, if it's more for bling, it is going to suffer elsewhere. @Hammer Down bought a Mini LMT Gravedigger and put every Treal upgrade on it I believe. It got to a point it shreds servos, and nobody makes one that can survive it. Not sure if this ever got resolved, but I have done the same thing with a 1/18 scale buggy. Dropped a brushless in it along with some aluminum hopups. It's so fast it melts tires, and destroys cheap servos when it crashes because of the added speed and weight. It is fun though.
Eventually I finally got it to stop eating servos. Just had to put the correct saver on there. It now has a Nsdrc rs100 with the proper rs100 saver. Works mint now, but yea, the heavy ally was definitely causing more harm than good for awhile.

What can I say.. I love my bling! 🤪

As it comes, the Mini Maxx is direct drive, right?

You can replace that setup with a center diff or slipper, I believe...
The center diff is part number 10760 (metal housing 10760R), the slipper is 10758, replacing with either requires a new center shaft 10757X and input gear for the rear diff, 10762.

Good to know. I gotta grab one before they discontinue them. Did you see this? It's on Losi's site. Son Uva Digger is still available.

No, I hadn’t seen that. Weird. I wonder if they aren’t selling well enough or possibly a version 2 coming?
It’s basically what everyone asked for forever, I can’t believe they would discontinue them.

It's Horizon. They bring out a model, sell the crap out of it, then discontinue it.

Yes it has a plastic shaft from front to rear. I may go with a center diff but for $70 plus a new shaft and gear(looks like the gear is on the diff).......Its now a $400 car. The way it comes out of the box is fun, it just doesn't flip in the air, I have gotten it to do standing back flips though. I think a better motor like an actual 3650 would make it alot better. The motor in it is a 36-- disguised as a 3650.

I'm wrong again, it says it all right here

So do you love it or hate it? Or hate to love it??? 🤣
The things you say require updates like diff and spur are the little things that annoy me about the "3s Granite" .
Is there some reason that any of us would WANT the cheap, easy to break parts?
Plastic driveshafts?
The "upgrades" seem more like "parts needed before you can enjoy this kit at 3s".
The "cheap" price tags that a lot of these cars have go away quickly.

Notice how the “1/10 scale” motor has a fan in it? It’s more like a 3640.
I swapped in an rcjuice 3100kv 4pole 3650 and a hobbywing 10BL120 gen1. The esc fits so much better, plenty of room for a stupid long 3660-70 motor if you really wanted to break it. This oughta be fun.

From the esc is a set of 16 ga wire and the motor indeed has 14 ga wire. Off the top of my head I don’t know what 14awg can handle but this is definitely not a motor to be called 1/10 scale.

That motor reminds me of the notorious Titan 12t. Congrats on the removal of your mini Maxx's cancer. Hope surgery is a success. 😁😆

Holy cow…… the only battery I could charge fast enough was a 3s 1000mah. This thing is insane. It will wheelie with every blip of the throttle all the way down the street.
I’d say it’s definitely a 30mph car now. It’s dark out so I really didn’t test speed, but it will now backflip or frontflip from a ramp. Still does standing backflips but even better now.
Further durability tests will be done I suppose? For now, a cheap 3650 and a hobbywing esc to the rescue!

Here it is on 3s and level 6 punch. Hobbystar 3650 3100kv motor, HW 10BL120, and a liperior 2200mah 3s 60C. Stock gearing. Forgive the conservative driving, I am one handed here, after all.

That thing is nuts!

Ya'll still liking your Mini-Max? I'm thinking about getting one for the backyard track/fun

I do like it a lot. I put a better motor in it with a HWbl120 but my son did the unimaginable......fried the esc. The esc has an XT90 while the battery has an XT60. I use an adapter in between with a lead for a direct power servo (made it for a rock crawler).
This esc has a fan/program port on it. Well, my son said he jumped with it and it stopped responding, he pulled the body off to investigate......
The dang kid saw the battery lead there unplugged and made it fit into the program port (JST into a futaba type RX port).
He said it started smoking. He unplugged the battery and brought it home. After looking it over (I could smell burned electronics), I decided I would plug it in. I also let out the smoke.
The bottom line is the Mini-Maxx is sorta down right now.

I'm going to get something for the air and for the ground today (my little mini-retirement is proving costly)...want something smaller for my backyard, my fireteam and slash are a little too much.
