Today is deep cleaning of carpet fibers, and diff lube . .again

I have come to love the sound of an RC ripping around the same as Harleys, dirtbikes, and good ol' American muscle cars.
Me too....I went the extra mile on this with my love of rat rod culture and decided to run an open primary set up for looks and added gear whine.
I realize I am potentially letting grit and carpet fibers get to places that are not ideal....but I also made my living as an artist for a long time....good looks are important too,lol

Oh thats awesome! I definitely love the open look. Expose all those beautiful gears. My husband and I put see through plexiglass on our harleys like the primary covers, air intake, etc to be able to see it from the outside. My favorite on rcs is probably being able to see the suspension work. I want to lift my ascent 18 for that purpose 🤗

I watched some videos, read the instructions etc. Looks like no placement will be ideal because of the metal chassis. But it sounds like people are getting away with it anyway. The rest of the instructions say not more than 6 inches above the floor...and I am way under that so I guess I just have to run it and see if it gives me lap times now.

I am actually really disappointed they discontinued this version.
Welp, classic horizon, what can you do? 🫤
The grease has come back out of the diff again. The diff is real loose here. Anyone have any magic tricks other than really thick sticky grease?
Yea it's a open diff, like really open, not sealed at all, the diff is just apart of the actual gearbox. Nothing you can really do unless you try really really thick oil like 500k or more. Last time I rebuilt mine I just packed in some red and tacky Lucas oil (or red synthetic geace from Mobil 1) and for the first couple packs let it break in, let the grease leak out. Clean it up later, and let it be. Just need a small touch of grease to keep the gears inside coated, lubed and cool.

I now have a transponder....directions say to mount flat and avoid metal between it and the track. For those with a mini b where did you locate yours??
I Velcro mine on top of my servo (which is a metal case, and I also have aluminum servo mounts) does just fine, picks up signal and triggers the timing loop like normal. I wouldn't worry about it that much. Us 1/10 racers often have ours near metal and carbon fiber, works just fine.

Yea in my 1/10 buggies I have them on top of my servo usually. Which the cars ride height is usually around 15 or so mm, so the cars ride height plus the height of the servo on the chassis, is probably less than 5 inches. No need to worry that close about instructions.

Carpet strings, fuzz, dust. I deal with it every race day. I have a portable/battery operated duster from Amazon. Works like a charm. And some tracks also have high psi air compressors too.

Thanks @Beer_Goggles_RC making this photo more easy to find on my end. This is from when I was racing Minis over the summer a few years ago. Sadly no one wants to race them anymore locally to me.

(This was on fuzzy EOS carpet btw)
(Office carpet is usually "more cleaner" than crc or eos from my experience. More cleaner meaning the amount of dust and strings that get pulled up per say)

Wish they raced anything near me. Really wish that Apex (Murfresburo (Spelled wrong) TN) would open up a Mini track so that I don't have to dump money into a TC that I'll never be able to use unless I'm at the track. I just gotta visit Apex and start yelling at them to build a mini offroad track, or maybe ask nicely.
