SO I'm interested in the XXL. Haven't found too many reviews on it and I missed the RC driver review (if there ever was one). The only decent review comes from Horizon hobbies and it felt superficial at best. A friend has one and so far is very pleased. He also races buggies and we both race our Bajas so I value his opinion on the XXL.

I've had the Savage XL but traded it for parts for another vehicle and now that the summer is here I"m getting the moster truck itch.

any common issues with this truck?

Looks easier to work on than the savage was.

thanks

While I don't have any experience with the truck, I will say I would take any marketing info that I read from Horizon with a grain of salt. Now, don't take that the wrong way, I like the folks at Horizon, and I've always had great service from them. But, like any vendor out there, they are out to stick a feather in their own cap first and foremost, and thus are going to tell you what you want to hear. Just my .02

There's an XXL on display at my LHS so I've had a chance to look at it up close. Seems like a good setup. One thing I did notice is the rear drive cup didn't seem to accept the drive shaft as deeply as I might expect.

Looks very similar to this situation from a mini LST revo tranny conversion.

where it should be more like this.

I wonder if Losi upgraded the thickness of the shafts without increasing the size of the cups. Seems like a silly oversight if that's the case.

in the list of upgrades for the xxl, losi doesn't mention thicker dog bones so perhaps this is an existing condition on the LST and LST2.

anyone with any of these trucks care to verify that?

thanks

Mine are seated more than 3/4 of the way in on my stock LST.

I will add this: I have torn up several of my rigs, but the one to take the most abuse and needed the least fixing is the LST. One thing I did learn: Losi does not like Loc Tite. You will need to go through the truck and check any and all screws going into metal. Especially check the grub screws on the axles!

JessF they sit that shallow so you don't have to take both diffs out to pull the tranny. They wont drop out unless the chassis gets tweaked. The chassis is longer than the LST2/AFT so it may break a little easier, but you will love how little the axles and drive cups wear. You can put several gallons on it without seeing much wear. Not like those soft as butter outdrives on a Savage.

I see what you're saying, but why leave the slot so long as if it's meant to sit deeper in the cup?

if it takes a good chassis tweak before they pop out, a slippe ddog bone is the least of the worries at the time.

I like it that they've made it easier to work on, IF that was their intent.

I did notice the Savage XL cups wearing after a 1/2 gallon and moderate bashing.

Why they left the slot that long I don't know, maybe because it's cheaper not to retool for that one part. But it's by design it's made that way, it's been that way since the first LST was released and it seldom causes a problem. You could shim the diff couplers if you would like it to sit a little deeper in the cups.
