After discovering how well it flies, I have continued to send it and beat on this car....as you do till something breaks.

Turns out repeated large jumps will eventually be bad for the rear shock mount. Parts in stock online, genuine kyosho replacement for about 6 bucks in less than a week...so I bought 2. It was 23 deg. When I got up today....I can totally break another before winter is over.

That's pretty much my parts buying mentality nowadays when dealing with the unknown durability of new RCs. Put one into cart for the replacement, put another one in cart for a spare.

Once you identify the weak points based on manufacturing design plus your own driving style...it's the right thing to do

Don't read into it too much. With the right composites and mild~moderate power plants... the spur gear is probably fine. I'm just not used to seeing something without a slipper nowadays.
I might have this spur gear thing sorted out....will let ya know in a week or so when the part I ordered arrives.

If this spur gear thing I have planned works that could be the beginning of the end.....once 1 mod unlocks the non stock profile....all bets are off at that point. This will be a good 1 that should allow access to a any size spur gear I want.

I think some regearing and a different motor could let this be a fun buggy, not that I don't like it now. Just for longevity. Brushes do wear out...

It would be faster too. 😎

Be careful not to go too crazy or the rest of the car will need upgrades too.
You'll have the only $3000 Sandmaster in the world! 🤣

I got that part covered, lol. We are gonna have a disagreement about brushed vs not though. Both options I have are brushed, and fully rebuildable. I have also spent a lot of time early on rewinding motors starting with slot cars. So if I want a performance change I can rewind the poles with more or less turns, thicker or thinner Guage wire with the same number of turns etc. I prefer to play these games rather than just picking something on a kv per $ platform.

If you are capable with a brushed motor, I dont think theres much advantage to be had other than weight maybe... all depends on who and what... 😉
You sound like you know more than I do about brushed motors. That is where I came from too.
I never rewound (successfully) but I've torn them down and built them back...
They are more than capable with some effort.

I have 2 Team Checkpoint brushed motors that are still to date, the best motors I own imo. These are the hand wound race motors before the company got bought, sold, changed.
I ran one in my old Mid and it was FAST! 😍

Both motors need bearing maintenance so neither is better.
Brushes are pretty easy once you get going. Most ppl today aren't interested in learning.
I'm out of practice but not out of motors! 🤣👍

Efficiency is a good question tho. 🤔

We can still argue about it if you want tho! :stick:

Lipos are a game changer too! Those old battery packs were heavy!
Its a LOT easier to get long run times with a lipo! 😍

Much of my professional life I spent as a tattoo artist. Still have some big spools of wire in 22 and 24 g I used to use fir building machines.

Yeah, we need to talk... 😍🤯😎

Nice work!!! I have dreams of getting more ink one day... 🤞
Unfortunately you are too late....got some physical problems where I have given up tat2, and a bunch more. Today's visit to the vet he recommends I will be giving up breaking racks of 8/9 ball.

I am genuinely glad this hobby is not too physically demanding

It's too late now..... @CertifiedMike ....just look at that beautiful brushed powerhouse....you don't get that kind of class with a modern bl system...

I'll get some new speed numbers after day break. Original motor with a 26t pinion top speed was 18. I went back to 27t like stock....which uses the 27 holes on the plate....in an effort to take it a little easy on this boutique motor. I can't use the fan on this case.

Very nice!
What are the specs on this motor?
Is that hex hardware on the endbell??? 🤯

Never seen that before! 🤣

I bet you could find a way to mout a fan in the roll cage area that could keep it from getting hit and still do a good job cooling. 😎

I'm looking forward to more top end speed and low end torque data! 👍

By comparison the stock motor ....after interpreting the term "sealed can" with the same reverence that comes with the phrase....locks are there to keep honest people out.
Stock appears to be a 22t 3 pole wound with what looked like probably 20g wire.

So the new numbers. 27t/91t gearing.
$20 boutique brushed motor. New top speed 25 mph with an acceleration curve that looks like it gets there within the first 20ft. Enough power for the back end to be a little too loose on dirt at the local baseball diamond. Which probably means either new tires or a wing or both are in the future.
So @CertifiedMike ....for my $$ this is a win for brushed performance. Torque wise I am on the edge of too much, I have the full range of usable speed in short distance for passing, and that cool looking bit of shiny mechanical bits on the back of the motor hanging out in the open that appeals to the rat rod lover in me.
Builder of the motor says to keep it under 150deg. Dirt, blacktop, and plowing through grass the motor never got above 100 today with the outside temps...even without a heatsink or fan.

Yesterday's new found speed was a good time....and I broke things with more efficency as expected. 35 deg. Hit a jump wrong, cartwheeled the landing about 10 ft.

I order a aluminum upgrade for a different car which should be here tomorrow and measures out like it should fit.
While we wait, I did say I had brushed motor options.
The next 1 to try will also be with a matching esc upgrade.

Still a great looking motor design, this time in 13t. Muwahahaha

Impressive!!! Thats a big jump in speed for a single tooth up! I might even try 28 or 9.
Might curb a bit of low end power and get more top at the same time. Sounds like the motor isn't even sweating yet.
I always loved the look of a caged buggy for the same 'rat rod', industrial look. 😎

I bet some new tires could really help it hook up well too. The stockers look narrow to me is that right?

I enjoy building suspensions.
I used Avid turnbuckles on this build, gonna prob try to use a Kyosho set on a Mid SE project.

The Kyosho 3mm are pretty inexpensive actually. 😎

The new motor/esc looks like chaos! 😲Excellent!!! 🤣
