How amazing would that be?! That guy is clearly very smart and innovative. I'd like to see his power bill haha.

I would hope that with all his innovations, he would have come kind(s) of VERY cool alternative power sources!!!

Looks like he can design and build whatever he wants.

I think he said it was around $1200 a month just for the aquarium power. Being what he is, surprised he didn't rig up a windmill or solar panels or something. Kind of surprised he used acrylic for the windows. Would think that would scratch more easily over time with cleanings and whatnot.

Glass that thick is likely more expensive but because they are so big and there is so much weight behind them, glad would be a big risk IMO. By the way this guy seems to operate, he did all the research and then some before he made his choice, whatever the reason(s).

Plus acrylic is easy to work with. They just cut and glue which melts the two pieces together. But for sure super easy to scratch. One grain of sand under a cleaner will really make mess of things haha.

Well, would have made more sense to put tempered glass on both sides of the acrylic. Wouldn't need to be thick, just there for cleaning purposes.

Money does not seem to be a concern to this guy. Didn't he say he had $500K to $700K wrapped up in the tank alone? I looked up to see how much an 8' x 10' x 2.5" piece of acrylic would cost. After some math based of 3" 4'x8' sheets, appears an 8' x 10' x 2.5" would be around $10k. Just guessing that's how large the two windows are. So, $20K just for the acrylic. Would be $500 for 5/16" tempered glass for 2 8'x10' sheets.

Anyway, I just thought it was interesting. I get sucked in on youtube for hours on stuff like this.

It's a black hole! I do the same thing. I guess with whatever I end up getting stuck on. I'll read, watch etc for days sometimes just sponging as much info as possible. Then the things I'll have bookmarked so I don't get too off subject, I'll go back to them and I get stuck on some other 4 day adventure! It never ends! :bookworm:

Same, here. I have a channel I subscribe to that's just some old guy doing old school manual machinist work. Found it one night deep in the youtube black hole.

I do this all the time. You'll be amazed at my knowledge on swimming pool heating elements. I don't even have a swimming pool.

You will be impressed with my vast knowledge of gokarts and how not to drive cars in the snow. :)

Somehow though... I always end up watching mud truck racing...
